SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant is an important member of the Kilian Team and will be a key partner to the Site Controller in the daily activities in the Finance Department by analyzing and preparing journal entries, preparing account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with company policies, and providing data and analysis to other team members. This position will also be responsible for the accounting for the facility located in Toronto, Ontario.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepares, records and tracks journal entries and general ledger reconciliations. May review account reconciliations performed by other team members.

Serves as the lead team member for intercompany balancing and works to identify and reconcile intercompany balances with global partners.

Supports the monthly corporate close, including preparation and review of balance sheet and income statement accounts. Upload data to consolidation software and ensure systems are in balance.

Consolidates and verifies financial data and identifies and investigates irregularities.

Responds to business unit questions regarding accounting policies or implications and provides guidance and support to the finance teams.

Provides data as requested to internal and external auditors for the corporate accounting group.

Provides back up for the Site Controller

Works with corporate accounting team to streamline and improve current accounting processes to facilitate the month end close and reconciliation processes.

Assist with the annual operating plan and monthly forecasting working with plant leadership to set direction and establish financial targets.

Performs tasks in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Oversees the Physical Inventory and Cycle Count Processes

Assists with cost accounting: the annual standard cost roll and new product costing.

Critical Competencies

Knowledge of GAAP

Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel

Strong manufacturing / managerial accounting skills

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong analytical, problem solving, and financial system knowledge.

Comfortable working with multiple currencies

Ability to interact with employees at various levels & skill sets.

Ability to collaborate among decentralized teams.

Ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects and/or requests concurrently.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field

CPA or MBA preferred.

4+ years of relevant experience

Experience working for a company in the Manufacturing sector desired.

SAP experience and/or systems implementation experience a plus

Physical Demand and Work Environment:

Work environment includes occasional exposure to noise levels at or above 85 decibels, dust particles, and exposure to variable temperature. Work performed in both manufacturing and office settings. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required to be worn.

Physical requirements include lifting up to 50lbs, sit and stand, good hand and finger dexterity, and ability to bend, twist, reach and walk.

Schedule Monday through Friday, start/stop times are flexible, partial remote work acceptable.
