Investment Analyst/Associate, Clean Energy

The Clean Energy team provides flexible capital solutions spanning both equity and debt primarily in the US but with investment opportunities globally. The team has invested over $3.5bn across equity investments in solar, storage, and wind assets and development platforms, as well as in private debt opportunities across the infrastructure sector, residential solar loans, Solar ABS and C-PACE/Efficiency. The team is currently looking for an Investment Analyst or Associate who will work closely with US clean energy investment team members, senior management and AB CarVal affiliates. Principal responsibilities will involve detailed financial modeling and valuation, market research, due diligence processes, as well as drafting and presenting investment committee memoranda. Ideal candidates will have a solid technical foundation / financial modeling skills who are looking to build a long-term investing career with AB CarVal and can be commercial when working on fast paced deals in lean deal teams.
Principal Accountabilities:
Develop, maintain and review complex financial models to analyze new investments and value existing investments;
Assist in the preparation of investment memoranda and other analysis to support decision making on new and existing investments;
Coordinate and support deal execution, due diligence processes for acquisitions, financings across the deal lifecycle including screening through closing;
Participate in the ongoing management, monitoring of both the financial and operational aspects and monetization of portfolio investments;
Develop ideas for potential transactions and deal structures, perform industry research and evaluate new market segments and opportunities;
Working under senior investment professionals, participate in working with peers at sell-side and buy-side advisors investment banking advisors on M&A and financings processes;
Partner to assist with structuring and raising debt and tax equity for acquisition targets, including creating lender models, ratings agency presentations, and coordinating lender due diligence;
Support the M&A team sourcing efforts; maintaining our M&A opportunity pipeline;
Corporate analytical abilities may lead to more opportunities in the private debt and platform investment side of our business;
Contribute to a flexible, dynamic and team-oriented culture;
May have a role in following and investing in traded debt and equity securities depending on market cycle.
Qualifications:
Required
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent;
1 to 4 years of total experience in financial services, investing, or clean energy;
Track record of excellence in academic, professional environments;
Analytical with a strong understanding of applied finance, investment analyses and strong financial modeling ability;
Detail orientation approach with a desire for timeliness and accuracy
Ability to synthesize complex information and clearly communicate findings of analysis
Dynamic, creative and entrepreneurial spirit;
Able to succeed in ambiguous or rapidly changing situations, and balance multiple assignments from multiple stakeholders
Resourceful and creative in approach to research and problem-solving
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders;

Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, mathematics, economics, business, or related field;
Experience in Private Equity, Private Debt/Credit or credit/special situation investing, M&A, Investment Banking, leveraged finance, Project Finance, or Corporate Finance from within a Strategic (Renewable DevCo, Battery Storage Company, IPP, etc.);
Experience closing M&A or private lending transactions;
Project finance and/or corporate financial modeling experience;
Knowledge of the sustainable infrastructure, renewables, power, and industrial sectors;
Demonstrated passion for investing and/or the energy transition.
