Senior Systems Engineer

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT

The incumbent plans, designs, configures, and monitors VyStar’s enterprise servers and applications. The incumbent will develop and maintain proper automation to enable the proper job flow for the core financial applications. This person provides a liaison between VyStar and vendors regarding system-related issues. The candidate should also have a clear understanding of how to research, design, implement, and troubleshoot information systems and technology solutions in support of business needs. Document all related technical procedures, operations manuals, and user guidance. Incumbent’s assigned hours will primarily be 8:30am – 5pm, Monday through Friday, but will also include evenings, nights, and weekends, as required or directed by the Network and Systems Infrastructure Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Administers and manages the VyStar core system and related infrastructure daily to ensure the proper configuration. This includes the monitoring of the systems hardware and storage platform. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the allocation of the physical space.

Specifies, procures, and implements open-system servers and storage technology. Evaluates factors such as vendor specifications, number of departments, and employees serviced by data processing equipment, volume of transactions, time requirements, cost constraints, security requirements, and access restrictions to determine hardware configurations.

Analyzes information to determine, recommend, and plan layout for type of computers and peripheral equipment, or modifications to existing equipment and system, that will provide capability for proposed projects or workload, efficient operation, and effective use of allotted space.

Confers with technical resources and project managers to obtain information on limitations and capabilities of existing system and capabilities required for data processing projects and projected workload.

Provides assistance to maintain and troubleshoot other systems as necessary. This includes internally deployment systems such as VMWare, Microsoft Clustering, Microsoft SCCM, Exchange, enterprise antivirus, Enterprise Storage Platforms, and others. Provides input into the deployment of Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP), Dynamic Domain Name System (DNS), and other sub-systems as needed.

Create and maintain an information technology project plan that communicates tasks, milestone dates, status, and resource allocation. Utilize software life-cycle methodology. Coordinate delivery of development (beta) and production releases that meet quality assurance standards.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.

Must demonstrate knowledge of Citrix, Dell servers, Cisco, Virtual Tape Library, and SAN storage architectures.

Expert knowledge of Windows 2003/2008 and all Microsoft back-office applications and a Microsoft Certified Solutions Engineer (MCSE) and/or Vmware Certified Professional (VCP) certification is required.

Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade server operating systems and applications for use in websites, data centers, enterprise resource planning, file sharing, etc.

Recognize and troubleshoot problems with server hardware and applications software.

Establish and document standards and procedures.

EDUCATION

This position requires a 4-year degree in Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a related academic area and a minimum of 8 years’ experience as a systems engineer or in a related position. Additional years of related experience in the field may be substituted for the formal education.
