The Role:

Our site in Toronto, CA is seeking a Production Analytical Chemist (1st shift) to join our team. If hired into this role, you can look forward to applying your in-depth knowledge of analytical chemistry and techniques to the characterization of complex mixtures. You will troubleshoot, develop, and optimize analytical methods for routine and non-routine QC analysis to support the Manufacturing and Engineering Teams with a focus on ICP-MS analysis.

Due to the complex nature of sample matrices, this opportunity allows the right person to expand upon their technical skill set and participate on a dynamic team in a growing organization.

What You’ll Do:

Manage ICPMS (Inductively Conducted Plasma Mass Spectrometry) and clean room supplies; monitor health of clean room and Ultra-Pure DI-water system quality.

Test and analyze R&D samples, manufactured materials, incoming material and in-process samples when needed in timely manner.

Utilize advanced knowledge and training in ICPMS to develop new validation and veriication methods

Prepare and conduct chemical and/or physical analyses as defined by existing work instructions on routine and non-routine samples using analytical instruments including: ICP-MS, GC, GC/MS, HPLC, IC, UV-Vis, NIR, KF, etc.

Review and evaluate data received from analytical test methods and processes to ensure minimal variability and increased robustness. Use this data to identify trends and/or underlying issues

Use proper controls for analytical instrumentation and the validation and verification of data; take corrective action when necessary

Support quality initiatives related to the customer, corporate objectives, quality planning, the quality policy, process improvement; and new business goals and objectives. Communicate with customers, suppliers and other resources in order to achieve these objectives

Act as the analytical subject matter expert as part of a cross-functional team

Train other personnel to analyze samples or perform other laboratory tasks

Follow and improve safety guidelines and maintain a clean and orderly environment, in accordance with 5S Guidelines

Work the following hours on First Shift: 8 am – 5 pm Monday through Friday, limited weekend and/or holiday coverage may be required based on business needs

What We Seek:

The ideal candidate will be results and detail oriented, strive to be an excellent team player, and be able to apply their solid knowledge of chemistry, mechanical inclination, good lab practices, and familiarity with the criticality of materials science in the semiconductor industry.

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Analytical Chemistry and 5+ years of experience operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining analytical instrumentation (specifically ICP-MS) is required. For those candidates with a Master's Degree or PhD in Analytical Chemistry or a related field, lesser experience (i.e., 3+ years of experience with ICP-MS) may be considered.

Knowledge and demonstration of proper safe handling and disposal of chemicals and ability to maintain a clean and safe workspace

Ability to compile and present data in order to effectively communicate data-driven goals for continuous improvement, method development/validation, and other projects

Ability to maintain instrumentation, tools, chemicals, and consumables required for product testing purposes

Ability to effectively troubleshoot instruments and resolve any hardware or software issues

Ability to document, process, transfer, and review analytical data to ensure completion, conformity, traceability, and validity of lab activities, in support of production and other internal/external customer needs.

Ability to use data to guide corrective actions when necessary

Ability to multi-task and balance independent, teamwork, and time effectively

A meticulous attention to detail and organization

Strong dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, and ability to safely perform routine repetitive motions

Ability to travel to US up to 15% of the time

Outstanding Candidates Will Have:

Experience operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining the following analytical instrumentation in addition to ICP-MS: ICP-OES, LC, LC-MS, IC, IC-MS, GC, GC-MS

Publications related to ICP-MS analytical instrumentation
