We are looking for a Research Manager to lead our Edinburgh-based members of the Commodities Global Analyst Team. This team helps produce detailed market supply-demand, cost and price forecasts at the asset, regional and global levels for Commodity Trading Data & Analytics, Gas & LNG, Oils & Chemicals and Metals & Mining. Commodities is a fast-growing business at Wood Mackenzie and the Global Analyst Team plays a major role in supporting the transformation of this organisation. It is also a key enabler in Wood Mackenzie’s purpose to transform the way we power our planet.

Main responsibilities

You will hire and lead a regional group of talented Research Associates and Analysts based in Edinburgh. You will build a strong talent pipeline and support development of those analysts.

You will communicate a clear purpose and set of goals to your team and will collaborate with the Head of the Commodities Global Analyst Team and the other Research Managers to build effective hiring, onboarding and development processes for our colleagues in the UK and beyond. You will work closely with senior experts across the business to build strong coaching relationships across the Global Analyst Team.

In partnership with the managers of the Assets and Markets Research teams, you will ensure the efficient and timely delivery of our research programme across Commodity Trading Data & Analytics, Gas & LNG, Oils & Chemicals and Metals & Mining.

You will also identify opportunities for your direct reports in different functions (e.g. Consulting, Product, Sales) and support the wider transformation of our Commodities business.

Qualifications

You have at least two years of management experience, having previously led a small to mid-sized team. The people around you recognise your ability and passion to develop others, building a diverse and inclusive environment in which colleagues thrive and deliver high-quality results.

You have excellent communication skills, both with your direct reports and key stakeholders across the business. The way in which you work enables you to build effective, collaborative internal relationships and can influence at all levels in the company. You understand that diversity of experience and thought makes a difference and that working across different geographies requires cultural appreciation.

You know the value of data and expert insight for business decision-making and are equally passionate about leadership and excellence. You are highly productive and driven, striving to be best in class and setting the standard for others to follow.

You currently work (or have previously worked) in the energy and natural resources industries and you are familiar with the challenges and opportunities our customers face, particularly around the energy transition and the need to change the way we power the planet.

You are comfortable leading through change, focused on continuous improvement and play a key role in implementing better ways of working. You have an analytical, commercial mindset and can formulate leading-edge analysis from a variety of data and information. You have a good understanding of the energy and natural resources industries gained in previous roles.
