The Role:

We are seeking a casual experienced and client-focused professional with a great attitude. The role is accountable for the effective delivery of carotid intima-media media (CIMT) and fibroscan procedures for clients during their Annual Health Assessment and other services at Medcan. This role will also support with Sonography as needed.

This role will also assist with facilitating the flow of patients through the Clinic and coordinating with other staff to ensure exceptional delivery of service.

Medcan’s sonographer functions as a healthcare provider who, working under the delegated authority of the reporting physician, serve as a medical imaging professional providing clinically relevant information to assist the requesting physician with the screening, diagnosis and treatment of patients.

The sonographer’s role and responsibilities include providing diagnostic medical sonography services and its various clinical specialties. The sonographer’s work is consistent with his/her education and training and is aligned with Medcan’s policies and procedures and applicable professional standards. The sonographer is a client-focused professional with superior organization and time management skills.

The Accountabilities:

Runs Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) test with full competence, owning all aspects of the role/service including both the scan and report including both intima-media thickness measurement and carotid plaque analysis

Performs ultrasound examination as established in the Ultrasound Procedure Guide;

Applies independent, professional, ethical judgment, and critical thinking to safely perform diagnostic sonography procedure(s) and documents all findings.

Reports findings accurately and on time to reporting physicians;

Ensures that the sonography examination results meet the facility standards for Quality Assurance before findings are released for interpretation

Participates in quality monitoring and evaluation activities and maintains measures to ensure quality standards are met;

Ensures that equipment performance is optimum, performs appropriate quality control test and adjustments to maximize image quality;

Coordinates with vendor or equipment technicians for preventative maintenance and repairs as needed;

Maintains inventories, orders electronic license keys and coordinates invoices/cheque requisitions with financial department;

Arranges and performs training in CIMT for colleagues when appropriate;

Participates in CIMT research by manually pulling relevant data for physicians, cardiologist and researchers;

Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality

Assists with facilitating the flow of patients through the clinic

Coordinates with other clinic staff to ensure exceptional delivery of service and client experience

Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with co-workers, administrators and members of the health care team.

Other client service or administrative functions as required

The Requirements:

Member of CMRITO

Completion of a recognized post-diploma Ultrasound program or equivalent

3 years experience as a sonographer preferred

Experience with CIMT is highly preferred

Experience with FIBROSCAN considered an asset

Superior organization and time management skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent digital technology skills/proficient with computers

Proficient in MS Word and Outlook

We are looking for a CIMT Sonographer to work on a casual part-time basis.
