JOB SUMMARY:

The Payroll Tax Specialist will be responsible for the preparation of various payroll tax payments and returns while handling federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance, correspondence, and research.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Research laws and regulations regarding payroll withholding procedures.

Maintain current knowledge of payroll tax laws affecting company/employees.

Ensure accuracy of tax tables in accounting system.

Respond to and resolve payroll tax questions.

Respond to and resolve discrepancy notices issued by tax authorities.

Coordinate with State and Local Tax Manager to setup new payroll tax accounts with the applicable agencies.

Process payroll tax payments and tax returns.

Ensure payroll tax payments are appropriately coded and posted through Accounts Payable.

Reconcile payroll tax accounts.

Verify data for accuracy to ensure compliance with laws and regulations, including organizational policies and procedures.

Assist with payroll tax projects and processes.

Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

Perform other duties as directed.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Working knowledge and experience submitting payroll tax payments to the IRS and other tax authorities.

Working knowledge and experience processing and reconciling payroll tax returns with multiple tax states and localities.

Skill in preparing, interpreting, and using financial reports generated from accounting records and other source data.

Skill in professional written and verbal communication.

Skill in computerized accounting systems and knowledge of company-specific software.

Proficiency in standard computer software, application programs, and e-mail.

Ability to organize duties and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Ability to work with concentration, accuracy, and attention to detail.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a discipline of Accounting, Finance, or Business

Three year’s work experience in multi-state, large volume payroll processing, including payroll tax filing.

Five years progressive work experience will be considered in lieu of bachelor’s degree.

FCP or CPP Certification highly preferred.

Knowledge of federal & state laws related to payroll and payroll tax compliance.

Ability to pass a drug, background, reference, and credit check.
