Senior Mechanical Engineer

Turner Laser Systems is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the team in a full-time position at our headquarters in Fremont, CA. We are looking for a highly energetic and talented mechanical automation minded engineer who can take on some of the world's most challenging laser process development projects in a small-business environment. We utilize cutting-edge lasers, optical systems, vision, sensors, motion and software to bring laser applications from the lab to state-of-the-art automation tools for our Fortune 500 and startup company customers. Requirements:

Extreme team player with the ability to proactively “rumble”.

Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years industry experience in design, automation and robotics. Prior work with lasers or laser processes is beneficial.

Ability to create and design tools; following industrial guidelines while incorporating newly developed processes and methods.

Strong fundamental understanding of mechanics, automation and motion. General knowledge of electronics, PLC, motion system control.

Problem solving mindset with the ability to think outside the box, yet know when to use tried and proven methods.

Fluent in the use and knowledge of SolidWorks. Full understanding of industrial fabrication methods, techniques and requirements (machine shop, welding, materials, coatings).

Conversational in ASME Y14.5 GD&T.

Ability to work with PDM/ERP systems. Be the main contributor to Document Control and proactively drive the documentation method. Fully versed in BOM generation and maintenance.

Vivid ability to present technical design, information and data into simple, clear and presentable formats for both internal and customer reports/presentations.

Passion to learn new technology and applications.

Personal drive to work in an extremely creative, fast paced and start-up environment. Desire to increase personal and professional development.

Proactive and able to lead technical design and development projects.

Your key responsibilities will be:

Design of platform and custom laser equipment and subassemblies.

Ability to present and sell the designs to management and customers.

Coordinate the development of tools and subassemblies from concept, through review, build and test.

Fully document the tools and subassemblies through drawings, BOM and build procedures.

Support team effort to improve laser equipment in the TLS laboratory.

Provide concepts for designs to incorporate process methods, for internal and customer understanding.

Support the assembly of laser subassemblies and systems during the build of customer laser tools.

Support sales and marketing teams with technical expertise. Provide concept designs for tools and fixturing to enhance sales.

Participate in TLS training to improve on your technical and management skills/knowledge.

Support of customer tools, including both remote and onsite service and support.
