As a Wind Collection Electrical Engineer for Atwell, you will support our Power & Energy team across the country working on renewable energy projects. The individual will utilize NESC, NEC, IEEE, and other relevant codes and standards to independently generate the following:
- Layout plans for electrical collection systems
- One-line diagrams
- Fiber optic single-line diagrams
- Construction drawings for low and medium voltage electrical components, such as switchgear, generator step-up transformers, junction boxes, direct buried cable, duct banks, and splices.
They should possess comprehensive knowledge of three-phase medium voltage power distribution engineering and be adept at conducting various power systems studies. Additionally, they will lead a design team, which may include junior engineers, electrical designers, and CAD designers.
Qualifications
Six plus years of relevant experience in the design of medium voltage collection systems for renewable energy projects or underground medium voltage power distribution networks.
Strong proficiency in the use of software for underground thermal analysis of electrical conductors
Strong proficiency in an electrical power system analysis tool such as ETAP or similar for performing short circuit, load flow, harmonics and arc flash analysis
Software – Bluebeam, AutoCAD, CYMCAP, PS-CAD, PSSE highly preferred.
Strong familiarity with the NEC and National Electrical Safety Code
Professional Engineer (PE) highly preferred
Experience with and knowledge of NERC and ERCOT requirements and compliance studies for renewable generation facilities highly preferred
Responsibilities
Provides leadership, quality assurance, and technical management for all aspects of design for medium voltage collection systems including the following:
Power cable routing, construction drawings and details
Underground cable thermal analysis
Electrical loss analysis of conductors and transformers
Code-related calculations and analysis
Short circuit analysis
Load flow and reactive power analysis
Arc flash analysis
Transfer Sizing Calculations
Annual Energy Loss Report
Reactive Compensation Study
Harmonic Analysis Report
Wind Turbine Ground Grid Report
Harmonics analysis
Review of utility scale renewable energy project interconnection requirements
Assist team lead with technical leadership and development of detailed design projects to ensure that project scope and schedule are being met to a high degree of quality. This would include occasional interfacing with clients to provide expertise and advice where needed.
Ability to work closely with internal and external civil engineering, structural engineering, and environmental staff to produce a well-coordinated and constructable design
