As a Senior Data Scientist on the Supply Chain team, you’ll be based in Bentonville, AR and will provide strategic and analytic support for the supply chain business, product managers, operations and merchandising teams at Sam’s Club. You’ll focus on using data and analyses to uncover problems and inform critical business decisions.

What you’ll do…

Identify data sources and scenarios for your business: you’ll categorize and extract data to perform initial data quality checks.

Drive the data strategy: you’ll define, articulate and apply the strategy that’s driven by data enabled insights / decisions to unlock the monetary value of data assets.

Deploy & Scale Models: You’ll evaluate analytical models, support their scalability, sustainability and ensure they can be deployed into production.

Develop & Test Code: you’ll write and test code to develop solutions and application features.

Assess & Validate Models: you’ll test and tune multi-stage models and model ensembles to assess accuracy, fit, validity, and robustness.

Build Data Visualizations: you’ll design data representations for multiple data sets, generate appropriate graphical representations of data and model outcomes, work with UX designers and UI engineers to build front end applications and present data visualization frameworks to the business to influence decisions through clear messaging.

Understand Business Context: You’ll provide recommendations to business stakeholders to solve complex business issues, develop business cases for projects with a projected ROI or cost savings and translate business requirements into projects, activities, and tasks that align to the overall business strategy.

Formulate Technical Solutions: you’ll translate / co-own business problems to data related or mathematical solutions, identify and leverage appropriate methods / tools to provide a solution and share use cases / examples to demonstrate how the method would solve the business problem.

Select Analytical Modeling: you’ll select the analytical modeling technique most suitable for structured, complex data, develop custom analytical models, conduct exploratory data analysis (i.e. basic statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, statistical inferences, trend and cluster analysis, etc.), and define and finalize features based on model responses, introducing new or revised features to enhance the analysis and outcomes.

What you’ll bring…

A master’s degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics or related field

4-6 years of experience in data science, machine learning, optimization models, or related field, 6+ years preferred

Experience in data source identification, working with database technologies, distributed datastores (e.g. SQL, NoSQL) and existing business systems and processes

An understanding of business value, data relevance, and appropriate application of the data ecosystem including data management, data quality standards, data governance, accessibility, storage and scalability, etc.

Knowledge of variable and feature impact on model performance and understanding of servers and formats for model storage

Use of coding languages like SQL, Java, C++, Python, R and others to test methods such as static, dynamic, software composition analysis, manual penetration testing, etc.

Comfort level with model fit testing, tuning, and validation techniques (e.g. Chi square, ROC curve, root mean square error etc.)

Familiarity with multiple data visualization tools (i.e. Python, R libraries, GGplot, Matplotlib, Ploty, Tableau, PowerBI etc.) and use of advanced visualization techniques to communicate and influence

Experience in analytics consulting, data-based storytelling and presenting findings to business teams in a relatable way

Deep expertise in analytics / big data analytics / automation techniques and methods

Use of classical optimization techniques (e.g. Newton-Rapson methods, Gradient descent) and numerical methods of optimization (e.g. Linear Programming, Integer Programming, Quadratic Programming, etc.)

Exploratory data analysis techniques and advanced statistical method modelling (e.g. graphical models, Bayesian inference, basic level of NLP, Vision, neural networks, SVM, Random Forest etc.).
