Position Summary:

Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute is one of the region’s largest orthopedic and sports medicine practices, providing comprehensive care for more than 250,000 patients each year. In August 2023, the institute opened Florida’s first dedicated orthopedic hospital, featuring 75 private inpatient rooms, 10 operating suites with four virtually connected suites that can be used to train surgeons around the world, and a state-of-the-art research and innovation center with a 10-station bio skills lab and 3D printer.

In March 2023, a new medical pavilion opened adjacent to the hospital and houses outpatient clinics, an imaging suite, physical therapy spaces and the largest orthopedic ambulatory surgery center in Florida. Expertise, technology and services come together under one roof and cover the whole spectrum of care — from prevention and diagnostics to therapeutic and surgical treatment options to physical therapy, rehabilitation and performance health. The institute also holds official medical roles with multiple professional, college and high school athletic teams as well as well-known sporting events and venues.

Jewett Orthopedic Institute is hiring for an Environmental Services Technician (Floor Technician)!

The Environmental Services Technician (Floor Technician) is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, clean, and healing environment. They will be responsible for performing duties in accordance with established organizational policies and procedures for providing a safe environment; achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection, and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors, and staff. While executing the assigned tasks, the Floor Technician will have contact with patients and family. The Floor Technician possesses technical skills required to properly use cleaning, maintenance chemicals, and floor equipment prescribed by written procedures of the environmental services department. They will be responsible for responding favorably to requests to adjust daily workflow or area assignments to meet facility needs.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, using appropriate designated engagement techniques.

Performs all types of floor care and maintenance throughout the facility, include hard surfaces and carpeting.

Adheres to all organizational safety, risk management and infection control standards while promoting a culture ofsafety.

Cleans and performs routine maintenance on floor equipment; requesting assistance from plant operations and maintenance as needed.

Maintains accurate floor care logs and checklists.

Ability to mix chemicals according to instructions.

Understanding of what pads, brushes, and screens to use for each flooring job.

Operates all equipment with care and according to facility and manufacturers safety standards and procedures.

Maintains key log for equipment sign-in/out.

Use communication devices properly.

Participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve HCAHPS scores as it relates to hospital cleanliness & “always quiet.”

Performs project work and specialty tasks according to facility needs; can include tasks such as conference room set up/dismantle according to function sheets and schedules, and cleaning of stairwells and elevators.

Removes waste and transport to appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste stream (i.e., regulated medical, recycle, solid, and hazardous).

Follow all infection prevention practices including proper cleaning process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions where, and if, required, and proper use of personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Recognizes and adheres to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).

Operates UV disinfection machine as needed or according to policy.

Completes other assigned task by EVS Leadership.

Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

Identifies and utilizes appropriate resourcesto ensure identified problems or concerns are followed through and resolved.

Adheres to all Standards of Precaution, SDS and Hand Hygiene directives.

Must complete all mandatory training as designated and required.

Attendance in services/meetings as required.

Participates in departmental quality assurance and improvement activities as appropriate.

Practices critical thinking skills to include prioritization of duties and immediate needs/requests (Stat cleans).

Identify and utilize appropriate resources to ensure identified problems or concerns are followed through.

Demonstrates knowledge of facility safety requirements.

Demonstrates the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.

Assists in onboarding new Environmental Services Technicians.

Reports unsafe situations, and turns in Engineering Service Requests for repair.

Qualifications:

Education/Training

High School Diploma or GED required.

Licensure/Certification

Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) preferred.

Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician (CSCT) preferred

DOT Certificate mandatory

Completion of a Comprehensive Floor Care Program

Experience

At least 4 years of Environmental Services experience, including floor/carpet care maintenance experience, required.
