TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking to hire Mental Health and Addictions Support Workers via the Health Career Access Program (HCAP). Upon completing the training opportunity, successful candidates will be eligible to work as Mental Health and Addictions Workers or Community Liaison Workers.

Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as Mental Health and Addictions Workers for 12 months subsequent to graduating.

Funding will consist of 100% of wages, tuition and books during the training program.

Applicants will be assigned schools based on seat availability.

JOB SUMMARY:Within the context of a client and family-centred framework and continuum based care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Mental Health and Addictions Support Worker works under the direction of a Registered Nurse or another regulated healthcare professional, performs a variety of non-direct and/or non-clinical duties to support other team members and individuals with mental health and/or substance use challenges and their family/caregivers, to maximize their independence.This work is framed within VCH’s commitments to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Grade 12 (and English 12) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Valid BC Driver’s License may be required as local area travel may require the use of a vehicle, and will be noted on the posting.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.• Ability to deal with others effectively, including working with clients living with mental illness and/or substance use challenges.• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
