Electrical Technician

Section 1 – Position Summary

Works with assistant to maintain and troubleshoot variable frequency devices on pumps, chemical feed systems, etc. in the water and wastewater system.

Section 2 – Major Responsibilities

Inspects, repairs, troubleshoots and performs routine preventative maintenance on all variable frequency drive units in the water and wastewater system.

Works to maintain electrical systems when not performing primary job function

Assist subordinate employees with troubleshooting and repairing of electrical equipment in all NTMWD operating systems, both on and off of the plant.

Orders and purchases parts and equipment as directed by Electrical Superintendent.

Maintains and monitors records of work performed using District Computerized Maintenance Management System

Observes safe work practices through proper use of safety equipment and procedures including permit required confined space entry and lock out tag out.

Responsible for ensuring subordinate employees observe safe work practices at all times.

Responsible for ensuring subordinate employees receive required trainings.

Will be required to be on a rotational “ONCALL” status to respond to NTMWD repairs outside of normal business hours must be able to work overtime when needed

Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must be knowledgeable of electrical theory and practices.

Must be knowledgeable of safety pertaining to electrical distribution systems and equipment.

Must have the ability to read schematic, one-line drawings, and construction drawings.

Must be able to follow NFPA 70E electrical safety in the workplace guidelines.

Must have the ability to comprehend, carry out and administer written and oral instruction.

Must be proficient in the use of the District Computerized Maintenance Management System

Section 4 – Education And Experience

Five years of experience as an electrician in an industrial environment, and or water/wastewater field.

Requires a Valid Texas Journeyman Electrical License.

Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Must possess a high school diploma or GED.

Section 5 – Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment

Physical exertion with lifting requirements from 10 to 100 pounds daily in order to repair and service pumps, motors and machinery while using various test equipment. Work also requires pushing, pulling, climbing ladders and working at heights, safety equipment and entry into confined spaces. Equipment utilized includes electrical and testing equipment. Work conditions vary from indoor to outdoor activities. Outdoor activities may involve exposure to hot, cold, dusty, chemical hazards, gases, and/or noisy conditions.
