SUMMARY – The Part-Time Farm Maintenance Person is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks within the MetroParks Farm and Regional Facilities. The Part-Time Farm Maintenance Person position reports directly to the Operations Supervisor (Farm Regional Facilities) and Operations Manager. This position is suitable for transitional duty.
Primary Responsibilities Function Priority Percentage (Should = 100%)
Animal Care 40%
Assist with daily animal care at the MetroParks Farm which includes basic chores of feeding, watering and cleaning pens
Assist with inventory and storage of feed and cleaning supplies to ensure continuity of operational procedures
Assist with routine vaccinations and grooming/dehorning
Review and maintain all necessary records, including but not limited to health records
General Maintenance and Repair 40%
Assist with day to day farm and regional facility operations
Perform snow and ice removal at all MetroParks facilities including roads, sidewalks, parking lots, etc.
Assist with miscellaneous carpentry and drywall repair work
Assist with minor roofing repair and maintenance
Perform janitorial services including building clean up, litter pick-up, cleaning restrooms, etc.
Trail maintenance and repair including aggregate, asphalt and drainage installation
Perform road, parking lot and walkway maintenance
Perform minor equipment maintenance
Perform general lawn and landscape maintenance
Equipment Operation 10%
Operate project specific vehicles and equipment including but not limited to: park vehicles, power tools and hand tools
Clean, maintain and inspect equipment
Departmental Functions 10%
Assist with MetroParks events as determined by Operations Supervisor or Operations Manager
Provide intra-department support as determined by Operations Supervisor or Operations Manager

Essential Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Knowledge of MetroParks rules and regulations, policies and procedures
Knowledge of basic hand tools
Basic mechanical aptitude
Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a wide variety of audiences in both writing and speaking
Ability to perform work based on written and oral instructions
Ability to complete all tasks assigned in an efficient, timely and professional manner
Ability to read, understand and follow MCMP rules, safety rules and SDS sheets
Ability to operate various types of maintenance tools, equipment and vehicles
Ability to read and interpret plans, details, specifications and operating manuals
Must possess proficient technological skills and abilities in the operation of standard computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Office products
Must be able to work a varied schedule as needed including evenings, weekends and holidays
Education/Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old
Must possess a valid Driver’s License
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
A minimum of one (1) year of general maintenance or farm work
Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform Job Functions
Must be physically able to perform all tasks inherent to the position
Ability to walk, traverse or otherwise access trails of all types, natural terrain, construction sites and all properties under control of Mill Creek MetroParks under all types of conditions
Ability to perform hard physical labor in all indoor and outdoor environments
Ability to operate construction and lawn vehicles
Ability to work from different degrees of height by using ladders, scaffolding, etc.
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to lift 50+ pounds
Hand dexterity, must be able to use both hands to work with all necessary tools and equipment
Ability to bend and twist easily from waist and reach above head with both arms
Regular and predictable attendance
Have excellent eye sight and hearing ability
Have physical and mental endurance to work long hours when necessary
Job Requirement
This position is required to be available as the situation warrants. Events may require working evenings, weekends, holidays or other times outside of a normal schedule.
