Environmental Services Technician - Surgery Center

Overview :

Responsible for housekeeping duties in an ambulatory surgical center setting. Ensures that all common areas are cleaned and stocked.

The Environmental Services Technician duties include but are not limited to assisting on a daily basis with maintaining the appropriate level of department flow by transporting patients to appropriate destinations upon discharge or as otherwise indicated.

Essential Functions :

Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care and concern with each and every patient of the Center.

Ensures that the ambulatory surgical center common areas are cleaned and disinfected including surgical suites, work rooms and sterile corridors as well as wall mounted boxes, cabinet handles, light switches, walls, ceilings, anesthesia gas lines and ventilation air returns.

Damp dusts and disinfects all flat surfaces in the operating room (i.e. furniture, surgical lights, booms and equipment) prior to first surgical case of the day.

Ensures equipment entering from outside of the operating room is cleaned and disinfected.

Cleans and Disinfects operating room in between each surgical procedure performed, when necessary.

Removes trash and used linens from the operating room to the soiled utility room.

Adheres to cleaning and disinfecting guidelines as outlined by the ambulatory surgical center.

Uses, protects, and discloses patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

EDUCATION: High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: Up to and including 1 year of experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Knowledge of disinfecting and germicidal agents.
