Job Description

Spitzer, a recognized industry leader in designing and fabricating high-specification equipment, is currently seeking Vessel Fitters to join our team.

What Does a Week in the Life of the Vessel Fitter Look Like?

Understand and follow safety policies and procedures of the shop.

Conforms to shop quality practices and procedures.

Interprets drawing and specifications to determine best sequence of fabrication.

Uses MIG & Flux core welding processes to tack.

Tack Carbon steel and/or Stainless-steel components using weld procedures.

Fit up nozzles & couplings according to the outside projections and angle.

Layout & cut baffle plates, openings to fit nozzle & couplings to head based on drawing specifications.

Fit-up Internals subassembly for pressure vessels and Fit-up internal assembly into the required shell.

Checks fit ups of other welders using appropriate tools.

Uses flame cutting torch, carbon arc gouging, plasma arc, portable grinders and other tools.

Works productively with others to help determine best solutions.

Uses overhead cranes, jib cranes and other lifting/rigging devices to move components in a safe manner is a plus.

Other duties as assigned by the Foreman.

Skills (to Pay the Bills)

Here's a list of a few competencies that the Vessel Fitter at Spitzer should have…

Ability to follow shop procedures, quality procedures and safely practices.

Must have verbal skills with fluency for the responsibilities assigned.

Requires 5+ years of pressure vessel shop fabrication experience.

Proficient in basic math including addition/subtraction of whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Proficient in reading a tape measure / ruler in increments of 1/16” or smaller.

Ability to calculate degrees and circumference using basic algebra and geometry

Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.

Ability to understand manufacturing sequence in a vessel fabrication shop.

Ability to use various welding, grinding and fitting tools.

Must be able to perform 3G weld test.

Ability to lift materials job components up to 30 pounds.

Experience in fabricating large vessels / towers as well as smaller vessels carbon steel or stainless steel.

Work Schedule

Spitzer currently runs two shifts, Monday through Friday with overtime on weekend work as needed. Late afternoon/evening/weekend hours may be required as needed. Work schedules may change to accommodate production needs.
