General Summary: Monitors assist bus driver in maintaining discipline while the bus is in operation; maintain proper records and documentation; assist student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist bus driver in maintaining discipline on school bus; monitor and assist students while bus is in operation.

Consult with and assist School-Age Supervisor in documentation of student information, record keeping; assist bus driver with route planning.

Assist driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses are secured as required.

Ensure safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating of students as required by State Transportation Guidelines.

Communicate with school officials, School-Age supervisor and parents concerning student background, medical history and behavior as appropriate.

Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned (classroom assistance after bus runs).

Maintain regular attendance

Job Requirements:

Maintain proper records and documentation.

Assist student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as required.

Understand and relate to all children.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

Lift students according to established guidelines.

Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.

Participate in CPR/FIRST AID training; Observe health and safety regulations.

Maintain attendance and routine records.

Basic knowledge of safe practices concerning bus transportation

Experience/Education:

High School diploma or G.E.D.

Prior experience preferred, but department will provide necessary training

Qualifications:

Work is performed while standing, sitting and /or walking.

Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.

Requires the use of hands for simple grasping.

Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.

Possess the ability to fulfill and any all office activities normally expected in an office setting, including, but not limited to: remaining seated for periods of time to perform computer entry, participating in filing activity, lifting and carrying office supplies (paper reams, mail, etc.)

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20-25 pounds.

At times, may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.

Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding).
