The Special Events team secures critical funding for Children's National Hospital, including new and cutting-edge projects and urgently needed community-based programs that would not exist without the support of philanthropy. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Special Events and Stewardship, the Director of Special Events develops and implements strategic plans to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts from event donors and volunteers. He/she provides guidance on developing opportunities to grow revenue with a focus on unrestricted funding. This person will identify and cultivate new high level prospects by building and stewarding relationships via the signature fundraising event portfolio consisting of the Children's Ball, Race for Every Child 5K Run/Walk, White Hat Gala, and the growing community-based events program. He/she manages an experienced team and works with them to develop detailed work plans and pipelines to achieve individual and team goals. He/she works with Children's Hospital Foundation leadership to engage high level support including sponsorship recruitment, on-site fundraising and donor participation, as well as engagement with the portfolio of cultivation and stewardship events. This person will be expected to interface effectively with community leaders in order to prepare impactful, long-term donor relationships. He/she leads the Special Events team to success by developing, tracking, and reporting financials and revenue projections; and manages the team to achieve stated revenue and expense goals. The Director leads the growth of the event program to generate more than $7M annually and is personally responsible for raising $1M through ownership of the White Hat Gala. Minimum Education

Must possess exceptional and persuasive written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

Must have the ability to effectively interface with staff, community leaders, and senior-level executives including corporate executives.

The ability to be a resourceful self-starter, think strategically, be entrepreneurial, and capitalize on opportunities is a must.

The ability to be a creative problem-solver and synthetic thinker who can deal with some level of ambiguity and strives to build consensus across multiple stakeholders and decision makers is critical.

Works in partnership with the AVP, Special Events & Stewardship and develops strategies to engage, support and grow fund raising for Children’s National Hospital through Special Events.

Develops roles and accountabilities for individual team members creating work plans that support the Special Events team strategic plan, and quarterly check-in to ensure achievement of goals.

Oversee pipeline development for the team, ensuring qualified prospects are identified pre-event and being properly cultivated and solicited post-event. Fundraising

Personally lead the fundraising and volunteer leadership (gala chairs and committee) for the annual White Hat Gala, raising more than $1M annually.

Execute tactics required to manage and grow a portfolio of signature events and community based events ensuring a high level of donor satisfaction and increased giving.

Manage total team fundraising with a goal to grow personal and team fundraising to achieve the Foundation's strategic goals.

Identify, develop and secure major unrestricted gifts via individual and bundled sponsorships to support the foundation's signature event goals.Project Management

Lead the Special Events team to success by developing, tracking and reporting financial and revenue projections; and manages the team to achieve stated revenue and expense goals.

Develop quarterly annual metrics for individual staff and coach and ensure achievement of goals.

Responsible for leading the team to maintain the events database through Raiser’s Edge NXT and other tracking tools updating gift plans, gift details and proposals. Collaboration and Communication

Strategizes across Corporate & Community Giving team and the Foundation to develop collaborative plans to increase funds for Children’s National.

In conjunction with the AVP, Special Events & Stewardship, supports the strategic growth of the entire department by developing and leading collaborative fundraising opportunities and operational management as needed.

Work with stewardship, donor relations and marketing & communications teams to develop appropriate outreach and stewardship vehicles for event donors, sponsors and committees.
