What to Expect:
The Clinical Documentation and Education Associate (CDEA) participates as a member of the Matrix Coding and Quality Compliance Department. Bringing a blend of clinical and technical knowledge to the job, the CDEA validates diagnosis codes in medical records, finds missing diagnosis, and may follow up with field Providers to fill in any gaps in the healthcare record. In addition, this position will partner across multiple departments at Matrix to assist in driving quality clinical documentation for our clients through query analysis, education, and outreach.
Responsibilities:
Reviews the CHA for clinical documentation completeness
Works closely with the Coding Department to complete query requests
Produces educational material as needed for coder and provider reference and use
Acts as a resource for the Medical Coding Department to include education and training
Works collaboratively with other members Matrix Departments to include, but not limited to the Coding/Audit, IT CHAT team, Clinical Education, Quality Improvement, Medical Director, and Clinical Care Management
Provides consistent feedback for continuous improvement for Coders and Providers
Document weekly recaps to identify areas of opportunities for Coders and Providers through observations, analytical review of data, and actions
Remain current on departmental updates for the Coding/Audit Department, Clinical Care, Clinical Education and Quality Improvement
Use quality monitoring data to compile, track, and report performance at the team and individual level for Coders/Auditors and Providers
Evaluates results in aggregate to identify learning deficits and opportunities for performance improvement activities
Provides actionable data to various internal support groups as needed
Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs
Qualifications:
Must Haves
Education and Certifications:
Master’s Degree required/commensurate experience and satisfactory completion of NP licensure or Master’s Degree required/commensurate experience and satisfactory completion of PA licensure
Minimum 5 years recent clinical experience as a, Licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Compliant with current National Certification
Certified Professional Coder (desired, but not required) through the American Academy of Professional Coders
Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (desired, but not required) through the Association of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists
Skills & Abilities:
Minimum one (1) year experience and production as a Matrix full time field provider
Proficient with current Matrix documentation platform (CHAT)
Knowledge and understanding of ICD10 coding
Prior experience in a Quality Improvement or Quality Assurance Program desirable
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
Demonstrated successful experience working in an environment of change
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills
Must be comfortable speaking in small or large audiences
Excellent coaching and development skills
High level of attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness
Demonstrated analytical, organizational and time management skills
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and working independently
Proficient with Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, PPT), Adobe
Demonstrated ability to work independently
