A transport manager oversees and coordinates the transportation and logistics of a company’s goods and products, they ensure that employees deliver products on time, in good condition and at reasonable cost.
Transport manager duties:
Responsible for the total transport function as a whole
Profitability of the transport department, constant implementation of cost lowering initiatives with regards to labour costs, fuel consumption, maintenance of fleet, productivity of drivers, fleet utilization, 3PL partner management, and any other costs associated with transport.
Excellent negotiation skills to obtain best prices from maintenance suppliers as 3PL partners.
Plan staff schedules based on delivery structures, contracted hours and budgets.
Monthly cost analysis on financial reports and presentation for solutions.
Fleet team management towards company goals and targets
Image Management of the national fleet
Insurance management – reaching set targets for loss ratio’s
Route planning strategies
Analysing customer feedback and information to develop fresh ideas and drive continuous improvement working closely with customer service department.
Identify areas for improvement in the transport operations
Vehicle acquisitions and de-fleeting best practice
Ensuring SLA’s met with all suppliers (3PL and maintenance)
Driver performances ensuring customer service standard is met.
