Job Description

The Mold Designer is an integral member of the technical team who provides expertise and capability in multifaceted mold concepts for automotive and non-automotive applications. The Mold Designer will be responsible for designing and helping to direct the build processes of production injection molds, compression molds, and supporting automation projects.

Responsibilities include:

Performing DFMs - part feasibility, risk identification, and resolution proposals

Design and modeling of all aspects of injection molds, from start-to-finish: mold layout, parting surfaces, development of actions and mechanics, cooling, ejection, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, component details and BOM management.

Understanding and interpreting mold filling simulations and cooling analyses

Comprehending GD&T part drawings

Checking and management of outsource designs.

Prepare data for downstream manufacturing processing.

Completing assigned tasks within budgeted schedule

Applying sound engineering and manufacturing practices

Working in a team dynamic with other designers, engineers, project managers, and manufacturing personnel

Participating in design reviews, both internal and with clients

Bringing forward continuous improvement ideas

Assisting in other areas for cross-functional support as needed

THE CANDIDATE: must be an experienced designer with demonstrated talent and capability in the design of world-class plastic injection molds. The candidate should have a strong grasp of all aspects of an injection mold, as well as familiarity with standard manufacturing and fabrication processes. He or she must be an excellent communicator, and thrive in a high-energy, quick-moving, and interdisciplinary workplace.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Extensive hands-on experience in designing world-class production injection molds - automotive a plus.

3+ years in a tool designer role in production and/or R&D environments

Experience using CATIA V5 or Cimatron CAD software preferred; comparable systems such as NX will be considered.

Broad knowledge of standard mold components

Adept in the use of general metrology equipment (calipers, micrometers, etc.)

Able to understand and interpret Moldflow.

Specification and implementation of hot runner manifold systems

Proficiency Microsoft Office products: Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, One Note

Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Must be detail oriented and highly organized.

Bonus Talents:

Demonstrable experience with compression molds is a major plus.

Coding for software automation (VBA, Microsoft Power Automate, or C++)
