Job Description

Art Teacher K-8 for School Year 2024-2025

Global Village Academy is an innovative charter school. Students learn core content both through English and language immersion in their choice of French, Spanish, Mandarin, or Russian (depending on the school). GVA is truly a "global village." Our immersion teachers come from all over the world, each bringing their unique culture and language into the classroom. United by a common core, students are challenged to become world class thinkers, capable of engaging ideas using multiple languages and cross-cultural perspectives, through internationally bench-marked curriculum spanning each language village.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach students Art History and different art genres in order for them to learn a range of art styles

Teach concrete and abstract concepts to students

Recognize and encourage students' creativity

Determine art supplies needed to conduct class each day

Demonstrate good classroom management and professional teaching skills to facilitate learning

Use oral and written language skills accurately and effectively

Maintain accurate records of student academic and behavioral progress, attendance, test scores and personal information

Carry our daily formal and informal assessments of student achievement

Maintain confidentiality

Create lesson plans that satisfy the Colorado State Standards in Art

Plan long term as well as short term objectives of instruction

May plan and present lessons to promote and supplement skills, concepts, and strategies introduced in the classroom

Performs integrated and trans-curriculum evaluation and design, and continuing efforts to improve teaching strategies

Conduct Parent/Teacher conferences

Work with other student classroom teachers to promote student achievement

Help students develop positive self-concepts

Encourage students to strive for high achievement

Manage behavior problems on an individual basis

Help students resolve conflict in a peaceful and productive manner by problem solving

Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

Must possess a Bachelor's from an accredited college or university

Must have passed Praxis or Place exam in content area.

Special education teachers must also be licensed by the Colorado Department of Education

One year of experience working with students in a school setting, strongly preferred

Background Demonstrating Application of the Following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Advanced knowledge of professional teaching methodologies

Bilingual preferred but not required to work effectively in a cross-cultural setting

Strong written and oral communication skills

Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills

Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and learning abilities

Ability to teach Colorado Academic Content Standards of Art at the elementary level, or have complete knowledge and teacher training of the core subject(s)

Ability to communicate, practice and promote team-work among staff members and community members

Ability to show enthusiasm for teaching and for working with children

Ability to maintain discipline in a classroom and promote a learning environment by using appropriate behavior management and decision making skills

Ability to make practical, common sense judgments

Ability to act effectively under pressure

Operating knowledge of personal computers and general office equipment is required

Ability to be a positive role model for social responsibility, human empathy, fairness, justice, integrity, highly ethical behavior, loyalty, and commitment

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Substitute for fellow workers as needed and assist in a variety of non-teaching duties, including administration of tests, monitoring students, and supervising in the Media Center
