The Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS) seeks to hire a full-time faculty member to teach in the Translation and Localization Management program. The position will start July 1, 2024 and is open as to rank (assistant, associate, or full). We welcome applications from individuals educated in relevant disciplines or fields of study.

To apply, please submit a cover letter that describes your areas of expertise and the set of courses you are prepared to teach based on the required areas above, a c.v. or resume, a sample of your research or other writing, sample syllabi for a 15-week course for at least 3 courses based on the areas of expertise (see below), course evaluations if available, two letters of recommendation, plus a statement about practices you would use to foster an inclusive classroom and provide support to the wide range of MIIS students. Only applicants providing this information will be considered.

Please attach sample syllabi for three courses. You should submit a minimum of three syllabi in any combination of the following:

Software Localization: 7-week, 2-credit (2 contact hrs per week) course

Software Internationalization: 7-week, 2-credit (2 contact hrs per week) course

Quality management: 15-week, 2-credit (2 contact hrs per week) course

Data management in localization: 15-week, 2-credit (2 contact hrs per week) course

Advanced Terminology Management: 15-week, 2-credit (2 contact hrs per week) course

Core Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

Develop and deliver courses and curriculum as part of the MA Translation and Localization Management degree program

Teach 10 credits (typically 10 weekly contact hours) per semester in courses related to the following areas of localization management (not translation)

Hold weekly office hours, advise and mentor students

Attend and contribute to faculty meetings and other events and activities that are essential to the Institute

Provide service to the Institute through committee work and other contributions of time and expertise

Maintain professional currency and industry expertise through consulting, industry-related research projects, conference participation, workshops and additional training, etc.

General Responsibilities

Faculty members design, develop and deliver excellent learning experience for graduate students to assist their pursuit of professional skills and fulfillment of their career aspirations. They contribute to the advancement of knowledge and practices in professions relevant to the mission of the Institute, and they collaborate and serve to achieve academic excellence in the business of the Institute.

Requirements

Education

MA in Localization, Business, Marketing, or relevant field

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Extensive experience in localization in at least three of the following areas of expertise: Software localization and internationalization, Data management in localization, Quality management, Terminology management

Experience with CAT/TMS/NMT tools, and website and creative workflows a plus

Experience with data and analytics a plus

Teaching experience, preferably at college-level and above

Ability to collaborate effectively as a team member

Ability to work with graduate students from varied cultural, linguistic, educational, and experiential backgrounds

High intercultural competency a plus

Fluency in a non-English language as first or second language

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
