Responsible for working with cinder blocks, plastering, ceiling tiles, asphalt, ceramic, and rubber floor tiles, roofing cement and paper, asbestos and fiber glass covering for pipes for general repairs and building requirements.

Responsibilities

Perform for large plastering jobs using wire mesh as necessary. Uses cinder blocks to close off an area and places ceiling tiles held up by metal strips nailed to ceiling. Replaces broken tiles when necessary. Replaces wet tiles.

Responsible for floor tiling using asphalt tiles for rooms and hallways; ceramic tiles for bathrooms and utility rooms; and rubber tiles where heavy trucks and equipment are used. Fills holes with cement before placing tiles.

Applies roof cement on roofs and applies roofing paper on cement. Uses trowel to place down cement. If applying liquid cement to fill in cracks, uses brushes or roller to apply it.

Use asbestos to cover hot water pipes or fiber glass covers for cold water pipes. If pipes are very large, places glue on fiber glass and wraps a special cotton material around pipes.

May be required to chisel holes into floors so electricians or plumbers can get through to repair wiring or pipes.

Install and repairs rubber tiles forming the base along walls.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Graduate preferred.

Experience:

Minimum one (1) year of sign-making experience plus some mechanical experience.

Minimum three (3) years of experience as a mason.

Knowledge and Skills:

Basic ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.

Physical Requirements:

Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.

Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
