Description The City of Roanoke is seeking a part-time experienced dispatcher to work in the E911 Communications Center as a call taker The preferred candidate must be certified as a Basic Dispatcher, VCIN (Virginia Criminal Information Network) Operator and possess a high school diploma or GED.

The preferred candidate must also possess a valid driver's license; have reliable transportation and no criminal record.

The position will remain open until filled.

Examples of Duties Receives incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire, rescue and other emergency and non-emergency personnel and services in an accurate, timely and professional manner; and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES include the following.

Answers the administrative telephone; provide information and assistance as requested and/ or forwards calls to appropriate personnel; takes message as necessary Performs computer aided dispatching work, including receiving emergency and non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire, EMS and HazMat response Handles call in a professional and timely manner and in compliance with all pertinent local, state and federal regulations Initiates calls to persons at the request of officers; calls wrecker companies as directed Provides routine assistance and information to callers, such as taking message, providing directions, routing calls, etc.

Monitors weather radio and alerts appropriate personnel of potential inclement conditions.

Gives medical advice via telephone when needed and adheres to adopted standards Receives and disseminates information thru the use of a data terminal linked to the Virginia Criminal Network, that links to other State and Federal criminal information Typical Qualifications Basic Dispatcher Certification through Virginia DCJS (Department of Criminal Justice Services), VCIN (Virginia Criminal Information Network), NCIC (National Crime Information Center) and EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch).
