SUMMARY The Director of Physical Therapy will assess, plan, organize, and implement rehabilitative programs that improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, and improve or correct disabling conditions resulting from disease or injury.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONTINUED

Patient Care

Perform initial and ongoing physical therapy evaluations according to APTA standards of practice as well as state standards.

Develop a Plan of Treatment for each patient based on initial and ongoing evaluations, including short and long-term goals, collaboration demands of other staff members, and required patient and caregiver involvement. Adjust plan according to patient progress.

Document patient progress according to approved medical documentation and facility documentation procedures.

Evaluate mobility, strength, and current level of patient function, while setting goals to improve in these areas that are scaled to patient abilities and realistically attainable.

Report patient progress to patient, patient caregivers and loved ones, facility staff and healthcare professionals involved in ongoing treatment/care of patients.

Develop a plan for patients following completion of their Plan of Treatment with appropriate in-home care services.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge through attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications, etc.

Assist other facility team members as needed to provide care and create a clean, orderly, and effective environment for rehabilitation and physical therapy.

Leadership Responsibilities

Ensure accurate and timely patient documentation.

Coordinate patient scheduling and compliance.

Participate in strategic planning with the leadership team for the growth and betterment of the facility.

Collaborate with other departments for patient care and facility improvements.

Communicate needs to executive leadership.

Provide regular feedback and recognition to teams on facility Teams.

Marketing and Community Outreach

Partner with Marketing Team and Leadership to provide insight and input on marketing strategies and materials.

Partner with Marketing Team and Leadership to provide insight and input on the creation and execution of community outreach events.

Quality Assurance

Establish and maintain patient care standards.

Conduct audits and implement improvements.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

This Director of Physical Therapy must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to demonstrate they can perform the essential functions of the job, along with the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Proven record of matching patient needs to treatment plans and implementation

Strong experience administering a wide range of physical therapy techniques.

Experience assisting/directing treatments given by aides, technicians, etc.

Experience with recommending assistive equipment to patients and outpatient

Experience with a wide range of patient age groups and injuries.

A strong sense of empathy, a compassionate outlook on PT and the ability to motivate patients into pushing their limits in a responsible, safe way.

CREDENTIALS AND REQUIREMENTS

BS or Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from a physical therapy program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association

Current Physical Therapy license for CA

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (with AED)

At least 2 years of experience providing physical therapy to patients
