Title: HVAC Refrigeration Technician III

Location: North Chicago, IL

Hire Type: Contract-to-Hire, Onsite

Pay Range: $43.00 - $45.00/hour (W2 w/full employee benefits)

Work Schedule: 6:00am - 6:30pm (4 days on, 4 days off)

Job Summary:

The HVAC Refrigeration Maintenance Technician will utilize their expertise in centrifugal, screw compressors, and positive displacement compressor chillers to work on various refrigeration and HVAC systems throughout a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

Job Duties:

Maintain, calibrate, service, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration and chillers such as centrifugal, screw compressors, and positive displacement compressors chillers.

Analyze and interpret electrical diagrams and layers to effectively work with voltages of 24Vac, 120Vac, and 460Vac.

Install, maintain, and repair walk-in coolers and walk-in freezers, ensuring temperature regulation and product preservation.

Utilize advanced calculations such as superheat calculation and subcooling calculation to optimize refrigeration processes and system efficiency.

Assist in root cause investigation and reliability-centered maintenance analysis, collaborating with cross-functional teams including those outside of the maintenance organization.

Create or edit maintenance job plans to optimize efficiency and productivity.

Operate and troubleshoot Beacon 2 smart controllers and IntelliGen systems manufactured by Heatcraft for optimal refrigeration performance.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide technical support and expertise in refrigeration and HVAC systems.

Actively contribute to continuous improvement projects and safety initiatives within the maintenance organization and/or the site.

Perform advanced-level tasks in the core function and train others in these tasks.

Ensure compliance with all safety and GMP regulations.

Handle any additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.

This technician will have a universal EPA certification.

Must have working knowledge of the HVAC & Refrigeration validation/commissioning process.

Proficient in the setup, use, repair and replacement of all I/O or BAS controlled systems including but not limited to: Current to Pressure Transducers, Controller Boards, Actuators, Valves, Dampers, Electric Pressure Switches, Pressure Current Sensors, Temperature to Current Sensors, and Humidity to Current Sensors.

Qualifications:

Either a High School Diploma with 10+ years of relevant HVAC and Refrigeration Maintenance experience, or a relevant Certificate with 5+ years of experience, or an Associate's Degree with 3+ years of experience.

Demonstrate proficiency in comprehensive knowledge of water hydraulics, water flows, and water pumps for effective operation and maintenance of HVAC systems.

Specialize in handling cryogenic temperatures, particularly in low-temperature cascade systems with expertise in temperatures as low as -80 degrees Celsius.

CMRT (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician) or equivalent desired.

Proficiency in multiple skilled trade disciplines, including Microsoft Office (Excel/Pivot, Word, SharePoint).

Utilize advanced tools, such as machine tools, diagnostic tools, predictive tools.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capability to effectively conduct root cause analysis and make sound decisions.

Willingness to receive guidance and training from other subject matter experts (SMEs) to enhance knowledge and skills.
