JOB PURPOSE:

The primary responsibility of the associate chair for the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer

Science is to support the chair of the department in all departmental administrative matters. In particular, the

associate chair will assist with a range of activities including making course assignments and advising students.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:

None.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Primary internal contacts would include the students, staff, faculty in the Department of Electrical Engineering

and Computer Science. External contacts would be sponsors of grants, donors, and industry and governmental

partners.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Assist with assigning faculty to courses.

• Provide juniors and seniors academic and career advisement.

• Assist with the overall leadership of the department.

• Attend meetings with internal stakeholders.

• Attend meetings on behalf of the chair.

• Actively contribute to the accreditation efforts of the department.

• Meet with grant sponsors, donors, and industry and governmental partners.

• Make class assignments for courses.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

• Knowledge of departmental administrative tasks.

• Ability to determine appropriate faculty for course assignments.

• Knowledge of university processes for academic related actions that are commonly taken by students (e.g.,

change of major, course transfer, etc.).

• Knowledge of the curriculums for the department’s undergraduate academic programs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Doctorate or its equivalent in computer engineering, computer science, or electrical engineering.

• Very good verbal and written communication skills.

• Very good interpersonal skills.
