Job Description:

Professor Hassan Bokhari is seeking an Arabic-speaking sighted assistant to work with him for the remainder of the Spring 2024 semester at the American University in Washington DC.

The main duties of the sighted assistant in Arabic include:

Reading and writing student materials for the faculty member, including assistance with Lingco (an online Arabic platform).

Helping to prepare teaching materials, such as handouts and video materials.

Assisting the instructor with work on Canvas, including writing announcements to communicate with students.

Grading.

Writing on the board in class and helping the instructor present audiovisual materials to students.

Position Type:

Part-Time.

The weekly work hours are expected to be around 32 hours, but this can be split between several people.

This is a union-eligible position.

Salary:

$20.00/hour.

Required assistant qualification:

Must be a graduate student.

Native proficiency in Arabic and strong background in English.

Preferred qualifications:

Background in linguistics.
