School Safety Officer for Preschool and Daycare Center
(10 month position)
The School Safety Officer is dedicated and vigilant to ensure the security, well-being, and safety of children, staff, and visitors at our preschool and day care center. The primary focus is to have a strong commitment to maintaining a secure environment while fostering a warm and nurturing atmosphere for young children. The School Safety Officer plays a crucial role in implementing safety protocols, responding to emergencies, and collaborating with the school's administration to create a safe learning and caregiving environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Security and Access Control:
- Monitor entry and exit points to the facility, ensuring only authorized personnel and families enter the premises.
- Check identification of visitors and enforce proper sign-in/sign-out procedures.
- Ensure that all security measures, including alarms and surveillance cameras, are functioning properly.
- Maintain a visible presence to deter unauthorized access.
2. Emergency Preparedness:
- Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, lockdown drills, and other safety protocols.
- Train staff on emergency procedures and conduct regular drills to ensure preparedness.
- Respond effectively to any crisis situations, such as medical emergencies, natural disasters, or security breaches.
- Liaise with local emergency services and law enforcement agencies to facilitate quick responses when needed.
3. Child Supervision:
- Assist teachers and caregivers in monitoring children during outdoor play, field trips, and other activities.
- Ensure that children are supervised at all times to prevent accidents and promote their well-being.
- Collaborate with teachers to maintain a safe classroom environment, identifying and addressing potential hazards.
4. Safety Inspections:
- Conduct routine safety inspections of the facility, including classrooms, play areas, equipment, and emergency exits.
- Identify and rectify any safety hazards, and report any maintenance or repair needs promptly.
5. Communication:
- Maintain clear and open communication with parents, staff, and administration regarding safety procedures and concerns.
- Provide regular updates to the school's leadership team on safety initiatives, incidents, and improvements.
6. Documentation:
- Keep accurate records of security incidents, safety drills, and any other relevant safety-related information.
- Prepare and submit incident reports as necessary.
7. Training and Education:
- Stay informed about best practices in school safety and security.
- Provide training sessions and workshops to staff on topics such as emergency response, child safety, and crisis management.
- Knowledge of child development and safety considerations in a preschool and day care setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with children, parents, staff, and authorities.
- Ability to remain calm and composed during emergencies and make quick, rational decisions.
- Physical fitness and the ability to stand, walk, and move around the facility for extended periods.
- Familiarity with relevant safety regulations and procedures.
- Certification in CPR, first aid, and other relevant safety training.
