Job Description

Position Summary: Prepare and analyze the financial statements for the CFO and Diocesan Finance Council. Assist with analyzing the financial impacts of current and future activities. Assist with oversight and management for the annual budget process and annual audit for Chancery, Catholic Charities, and Foundation in conjunction with an external audit firm. Oversee Priest Pension Plan funding, attend priest pension plan meetings, and maintain meeting minutes. Oversee the day-to-day management of general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, and payroll.

Essential Job Functions:

Responsible for the monthly financial statement reporting for the companies of the Diocese of Charleston and ensures the quality, accuracy, and integrity of these statements through the administration of financial controls of the organization. Ensures that the financial reporting is consistent with GAAP.

Manages the relationship with external CPAs, coordinates year-end audit for Chancery, Catholic Charities, and the Foundation, conducts ad-hoc consultations, and present results and findings to the Controller and CFO.

Assists the Controller in coordinating and administering the Chancery and Catholic Charities budget process with the assistance of changes and inquiries from department heads.

Identifies opportunities to advance the department/organization in practices and use of technology.

Works with management to implement initiatives as approved.

Ensures compliance with internal control procedures.

Supervise accountants and provide guidance on team goals and priorities.

Coordinate learning opportunities for internal staff.

Education Requirements/Position Qualifications:

BS/BA in Accounting or Finance plus CPA certification preferred; OR a minimum of 10 years of solid experience preparing financial analysis and management reports; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience with a strong fundamental background in accounting and accounting practices required.

Supervisory experience of subordinate staff required.

Practicing Catholic in good standing preferred, but not required.

The Accounting Manager utilizes knowledge of GAAP and best practices to make accounting decisions that have a solid ethical footing while accurately portraying the activities of the organization.

Mature judgment in business and finance matters is a prerequisite.

Must possess knowledge of budgeting methods and practices. Interrelationship skills with constituents are essential as are excellent computer knowledge and expert time management skills.

Must be well-organized as the position requires and demands initiative and drive and ability to function without direct supervision.

Must possess strong teamwork skills.

Previous success in providing excellent customer service to a variety of stakeholders.

Driver’s License required.
