Overview:

RTI International’s Center for Applied Economics and Strategy (CAES) is seeking a talented Early Career Environmental Engineering Applications Developer to join its software development and operations team. The successful candidate has a demonstrated interest in environmental issues and/or working with environment-focused data and will design, build, and maintain software to support a diverse portfolio of contract- and grant-funded research in the areas of the environment and natural resources, agriculture, energy efficiency, innovation, and economic development. This position within RTI’s Environment Practice Area will contribute meaningfully to some of RTI's most successful programs and includes opportunities to join a multidisciplinary team, contribute to scientific publications, and see all aspects of the software development process.

Responsibilities:

This individual will be working with a team of software engineers to both maintain and develop new features and improvements to existing software-as-a-service products as well as lead the design and development of brand-new software products. Ideal candidates enjoy working with all facets of web application development, will thrive working as a part of multi-disciplinary teams on a variety of types of projects and have a can-do attitude, passion for technology and be able to get up to speed and contribute to the team quickly.

Qualifications:

The candidate should have the following experience and knowledge:

· Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Engineering or in an environmental, engineering, or economics discipline with emphasis in software development and 1-3 years of relevant experience (or relevant internships or co-ops in lieu of years of experience) in information technology or software development (or a master’s degree in a related field)

· Demonstrated knowledge or capabilities within environmental science, environmental engineering, and/or economics domains via course-work or professional experience

· Experience with software development in Python, C#/.NET Core, PHP, or Java and JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or jQuery

· Ability to query and build applications using relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL

· Full understanding of software management lifecycle with experience using git and project tracking tools such as GitHub, GitLab, or JIRA

· Experience working with Unix/Linux operating systems

· Qualified candidates must have prior experience that demonstrates the ability to work with professionals across a wide array of disciplines on a team that focuses on developing RTI proprietary Web-based software systems

· To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status.

Optional experience and knowledge:

· Experience using cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure

· Experience building and using Docker containers

· Familiarity with server-side web application frameworks (e.g. Django, CodeIgniter)

· Familiarity with web-based GIS system development (e.g. ArcGIS, Mapbox, Leaflet)

· Mobile development experience for Android devices

· Scripting experience (e.g. bash, perl, python)

· Understands practices such as Agile development, CI/CD, DevOps, DevSecOps

· Familiarity with setup and administration of web application servers (e.g. Apache, Nginx)
