Surveyors and Mappers play an important role in the lives of all citizens because they are crucial in determining land boundaries and elevations, as well as being essential partners in all phases and types of land development and construction. Technical field work assisting on survey and mapping projects. Employees in this class operate various survey instruments in day-to-day operations of collecting data as part of a survey team and perform a variety of technical tasks. Work is completed under the direction of a licensed Professional Surveyor and Mapper. The Public Works Survey and Mapping Division has a variety of customers and provides a wide range of products and services with a major focus on supporting the County's Capital Improvement Program and other initiatives. The Division consists of both office and field assigned staff. We are looking for a candidate that is action-oriented, has good communication skills and a can-do attitude, and is a continual learner. A successful employee in this position will want to learn the functions of the Division and be flexible, positive and a real team player. The work schedule for this position is Monday - Thursday, 6:30AM - 5:00PM

What Would You Do?

Operation and care of survey instruments.

Assist in establishing survey-grade project control and utilizing survey equipment to locate topographical features for the preparation of maps, surveys, and exhibits.

Information processing.

Map and plan interpretation.

Computations.

What Do You Need To Have?

Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver's License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.

Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Basic Knowledge of computers and keyboard familiarity.

Possession of sufficient physical stamina to work long hours outdoors under various field conditions with exposure to traffic, extreme heat and rainfall.

Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. Certificate

One (1) year of experience working as a instrument operator on a team providing Survey and Mapping services; or

An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Highly Desirable

Skilled in the use of survey instruments such as but not limited to: Total Stations, Automatic Levels, data collection systems and GPS.

Knowledge of the techniques and practices of land surveying and mapping.

Ability to interpret drawings, deeds and maps.

Ability to operate motorized equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of general construction principles and practices.

Ability to read and interpret specifications, maps, and construction drawings.

Ability to make routine surveying computations quickly and accurately.

Ability to maintain and calibrate survey instruments.
