Litigation Manager

Litigation Full-Time

In-person, hybrid, or remote available

Job Description

Our Litigation Manager plays a vital role to the Employment Law and Personal Injury Departments. The role is twofold: You will oversee our Litigation Team, supporting, managing, and training paralegals and other legal support staff. You will also have the opportunity to directly apply your paralegal expertise as the Senior Paralegal assigned to high-value cases. Our clients have sustained life-changing injuries or have faced awful mistreatment including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, sexual assaults, sexual batteries, failure to accommodate, wrongful discharge, and other types of illegal mistreatment. They come to us for legal representation, support, and understanding. Your role is to lead the litigation team that provides outstanding support to our attorneys and excellent service to our clients. The department operates in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Job Qualifications

Education: California Certified Paralegal

Experience: 8+ years Civil Litigation experience required; Employment Law and/or Personal Injury experience preferred

Extensive litigation and trial experience

Strong leadership, management, and training experience

Language: English, Spanish strongly preferred

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail

Analytical and critical thinker

Excellent hands-on computer skills

Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

Ability to work well independently and within a team

Ability to thrive under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate files

Ability to function with a high level of patience, tact, and diplomacy in handling negative or challenging situations

Familiarity with case management software, Microsoft Word Suite, Adobe Pro, and other legal software required; experience with Smart Advocate preferred

Familiarity with California Discovery Act and all deadlines and dates

Job Responsibilities

Manage, train, and oversee team paralegals and other litigation support staff

Create team and individual Key Performance Indicators for both personal injury and employment law litigation teams

Evaluate the efficiency of systems and procedures, identify improvements, and establish new practices to meet and exceed organizational objectives

Identify staffing needs for the personal injury and employment litigation support teams and participate in the recruiting process

Prepare and execute initial training schedules/plans for litigation support team new hires

Monitor litigation support team member compliance with firm policies, including attendance, dress codes, work hours, etc.

Ensure paralegals’ compliance with civil litigation deadlines and internal processes

Ensure case file managers and legal assistants’ compliance with internal processes

Serve as liaison between attorneys and support team to address completion of tasks, training needs, or any other performance concerns

Serve as lead litigation paralegal for high value cases and those preparing for trial

Oversee Litigation Calendar Clerk who manages personal injury and employment law litigation calendar

Engage in WarmuthLaw Leadership Training with Executive Coach

Run and distribute weekly litigation reports

Assignment of team members to cases

Assign secondary attorneys/paralegals for cases transferring to litigation

Assist attorneys with assigning tasks to paralegals

Maintain thorough knowledge of the California Discovery Act, including all aspects of discovery and law and motion

Edit and finalize litigation documents

Maintain filing systems and internal case database (Smart Advocate)

Respond to emails and correspondence on behalf of the attorneys

Plan, coordinate, and ensure timelines for department’s legal matters including materials for meetings, conference calls and follow-up items

Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and complete them under time constraints

Drafting of court documents and preparation of court filings

Other duties may be assigned in addition to those listed
