Job Description

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc (HATCI) is looking for a mid-level Closures Engineer (EII) at our Superior Township, MI facility who will:

Design, develop, release Closure Mechanism systems (Including but not limited to Power & Manual Tonneau Covers, Power, Manual & Static Closure Glazing, Power Sunroofs, Door Modules, Power & Manual Latches, Special Mechanism Features, BIW Systems to support mechanisms).

Perform design-releasing duties for N.A. based vehicle projects and manage system BOM's.

Experienced in the use of CATIA V5 and other engineering tools to create and modify 3D data and 2D drawings.

Lead system cost/mass target reduction studies for component parts.

Lead investigations into system quality, assembly and durability issues and suggest engineering improvements whist mentoring and guiding junior engineers on best practices to mitigate future issues.

Lead cross-functional team interface actions with other engineering design teams, supplier etc. both domestically & within Korea.

Lead design & issue resolution actions with US based Korean Coordinators.

Review and advise on part / system performance and regulatory testing.

Lead system benchmarking activities for future product development opportunities.

Liaise between North American affiliates and Korean headquarters.

Recommend engineering improvements for assessed field claims based on customer feedback and other sources.

Support the interpretation of regulations and crash performance requirements.

Support advanced development of closure systems and components for future vehicles.

Travel up to 20% of time domestically and/or internationally.

Engineers should be able to demonstrate:

Familiarity with MS Office to prepare reports / spreadsheets as necessary to support project work.

Experience using Computer-Aided Design Tools (Catia V5 experience required, additional NX experience is a plus)

4 + years working knowledge in one or more disciplines: - Gazing, Sealing, Mechanisms, Mechatronics, sheet metal (Steel & Aluminum), polymers & elastomer design, forming, welding, joining, electronics and production assembly techniques.

Good working knowledge of Closure mechanisms, glazing both Power, manual and fixed, sealing design, assembly and tooling, tonneau covers.

Experience in cradle to grave product development best practices & processes

OEM product launch experience.

Knowledge of part & assembly Datum Schemes and dimensional tolerance application.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

4+ years relevant work experience preferred

Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
