Plasman, Fort Payne - 403 Airport Rd W, Fort Payne, AL 35968 is immediately seeking a new member to join our team as:

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY SPECIALIST

The Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for providing, health, safety and environmental guidance throughout the A.P. Plasman operations. This position is also responsible for working with the corporate EHS Manager, plant HR Managers/ Coordinators and plant management to ensure compliance, implement good manufacturing and continuous improvement practices, and EHS as a value-added part of the overall business. This position reports directly to the onsite Human Resources Manager and indirectly to the Corporate EHS Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Establish and maintain systems which ensure that all facilities are capable of demonstrating compliance with all applicable local and federal legislation and regulations, and all A.P. Plasman internal EH&S policies

Implement Environmental, Health & Safety Programs including the minimum standards of performance, measurement systems, training, performance evaluation systems and utilization of best practices

Provide technical and regulatory assistance to plant operations

Assist the EHS Manager and plant management to establish systems, determine accountabilities, and provide education and training for all employees as per the legislative and collective agreement requirements, to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with all applicable provincial, state and federal regulations and provisions

Facilitate health and safety policies and programs with respect to: project planning reviews, approval of new equipment and processes, plant inspections, accident investigations, health and safety compliance audits, lockout/tag out, personal protective equipment, fire safety and emergency planning, facilitate in-plant and air noise sampling surveys. Oversee and provide assistance to plant HR regarding Workman's Compensation cost containment strategies and programs to ensure that they are effectively managing all claims, including an early and safe return to work program

Certified Management member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee where applicable

Responsible for all state and federal environmental reporting, permitting and due diligence where applicable

Acts as company representative for security for all on-site company activities

Function as ergonomics specialist and coordinate ergonomics program

Act as Management Representative for ISO 14001 Program

Ensure compliance with all requirements of ISO 14001 Program

Ensure personal and associate awareness and understanding of ISO 14001 and ISO/TS 16949 (includes ISO 9001) Standards, and company policies and procedures.

During management system audit events provide evidence in support of conformance with applicable standards and procedures, and participate in corrective action activities as necessary

Assist HR and EHS Manager with other tasks and related duties as required.

Promote an atmosphere of teamwork at all times

Ensure that a clean and safe work environment is always maintained

Ensure that sufficient safety resources are available for each department including training, safety requirements, personnel, work instructions, procedures, and related tools

Assist in any way to any employee, necessary to promote a successful operation emphasizing customer satisfaction

Directs supervisors in maintaining positive employee relations and safe work environment.

Ensure that all employees receive proper safety and environmental training and understand all job tasks

Complete any other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED Certificate. College degree in Environmental Health and Safety related filed (or equivalent experience)

Certified Health & Safety Representative - OSHA 30

5 years of progressive experience in Health & Safety & Environmental in Automotive/Industrial across multiple manufacturing processes (molding, paint, assembly preferred).

Understanding of expectations detailed through Organization Statements, Standards, Visions, Policies and Procedures (i.e. Mission, Values, Code of Conduct, Operational, Quality, and Environmental Health & Safety) as referenced in Employee Handbooks and communicated through Orientation and/or other training awareness opportunities

Additional training requirements may be identified based on plant-specific location (municipality/province/state/country) and/or operational needs that are commensurate with the duties, expectations and responsibilities of the role within the specific plant

Ability to perform well in high pressure situations

Possess sound financial and business insights

Capable of independent travel to, from and within designated regions

Must be self-motivated with excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Must be capable of performing the essential duties which include maximum safe lifts to the 75th percentile of the employee as determined by acceptable standards

Access to reliable transportation

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus
