As a provider of residential services to children who have experienced situations of abuse, neglect, or homelessness, we must take the utmost care when reviewing candidates. Hiring policies are taken directly from the state and federal standards under which we operate. All candidates must agree to a SC Central Registry Check, SLED check, and fingerprinting.
Position Summary and Purpose:
The Bookkeeper reports directly to the Director, Finance & Operations and is responsible for assisting with the accounting operations of the Children's Attention Home to include the maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, the preparation of periodic financial reports, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the Home's reported financial results.
Essential Responsibilities:
Oversee the management of accounts payable/receivable, petty cash, deposits, and purchase cards
Prepare monthly account reconciliations for review
Manage accounting for restricted and unrestricted funds
Assist with the management of allocation of expenses to appropriate programs and grants
Assist with the preparation of DSS and other RFPs
Assist with the management of the procurement process and capital purchases
Assist with the completion of payroll and related transactions and the management of the payroll system
Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts
Assist in preparation for the annual audit
Assist with the maintenance of the chart of accounts, financial management and control systems
Assist with the development of policies, procedures, and internal controls to align with established best practices
Assist with the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processes
Review accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances
Prepare and provide financial reports as needed

Education and Training:
A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is preferred. Three years of related work experience and knowledge of GAAP is required. Prior non-profit experience and experience with QuickBooks is preferred but not required.
License:
A valid driver's license is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Must be physically able to frequently operate a variety of office equipment including a computer, calculator, telephone, copier, etc. Must be able to occasionally exert up to twenty-five pounds of force and/or frequently exert a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Frequent: standing, repetitive use of hand, walking, standing, bending neck and waist, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting neck and waist, simple and power grasping of left and right hand, fine manipulation of left and right hand, reaching above shoulder level, reaching below shoulder level. Lifting objects up to 25 pounds from below the waist to a height of 3 feet.
