Job Description
Summary:
The Plant Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of all machinery and equipment within the plant. This role includes, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to keep the plant running smoothly and safely. The Plant Maintenance Mechanic will perform preventive maintenance, conduct inspections, and respond to equipment breakdowns promptly to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules. Additionally, the mechanic will work collaboratively with other team members and departments to optimize equipment performance and contribute to a safe working environment.
Essential Duties of Position:
Ensures that the facility’s equipment and machines are maintained properly and working correctly (e.g., production lines, gear boxes, small motors, conveyor belts, automated valves, steam traps, etc.)
Inspects equipment and systems to identify problems or issues
Conducts preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines to ensure that all systems are operating properly
Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary
Oils and lubricates moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance
Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts
Orders and installs replacement parts for machines and production equipment
Repairs broken machines quickly and efficiently
Prepares reports documenting work performed
Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies
Makes necessary modifications and implements test runs; confers with manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required
Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to schedule regular maintenance on machines and if any outside services are required
Recommend process improvement projects
Installation of new automation equipment: Wiring controllers, data loggers and communication devices
Other duties as assigned by management
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed:
Ability to use hand tools and power tools
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and with others
Basic knowledge to understand blueprints and schematic drawings.
Basic knowledge of computers and MS Office Suite of programs
Basic knowledge of computer automation such as Allen-Bradley, Emerson/RAS, Yokogawa, etc.
Workable knowledge of Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) software
Ability to travel to various plants within a family of companies.
Qualifications:
2 years technical training/education required.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role required
Previous packaging line experience is a plus
Previous experience in a manufacturing industry preferred
Lock Out Tag Out training, within 1 year of employment.
Confined space certification, within 1 year of employment
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the production facility
Prolonged periods of standing and walking
Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, and crawl into awkward spaces
Ability to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery
Must be able to visually inspect machines
Must be able to lift and/or carry 50 pounds at a time
