POSITION CONCEPT:

The HRSG Specialist is responsible in a line capacity to the Engineering and Maintenance Manager for all assigned engineering projects in the plant station service maintenance and engineering areas. The primary function is to provide technical support in developing maintenance strategies and repair plans for existing Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) systems, power piping, and valves at Bayside Power Station. Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining fleet standards related to HRSGs, power plant high energy piping, valves, and spares to ensure safe and reliable operation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Within the limits of authorized objectives, policies, procedures, plans, schedules and budgets, this position has the responsibility and commensurate authority to:

Complete HRSG Equipment inspections including piping, ammonia systems, etc and troubleshoot equipment issues

Collect and analyze HRSG operational/performance data to determine if objectives are being met

Review HRSG system operating history and equipment health and recommend ongoing changes

Identify, troubleshoot, and help solve mechanical and performance problems as needed and make recommendations to reduce costs, improve operations, extend equipment life and prevent unplanned downtime, including recommending spare parts for equipment. Support Predictive Maintenance, ie thermal imaging and ultra sonic diagnostic testing in areas of responsibility use

Document and prepare reports on any future improvements that can be made to improve operation and/or efficiency of the HRSG systems

Investigate and analyze new products and procedures and direct personnel in use of same. Contact equipment manufacturers to solve equipment problems

Coordinate and provide engineering support and quality control for work performed by outside contractors and plant personnel within the realm of station service

Provide input for major outage planning. Lead projects when applicable and represent station on Energy Supply lead projects. Provide daily technical support to station operations concerning assigned equipment

Develop budgets for maintenance and improvements to ensure safe and reliable operation of assigned equipment

Perform all other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Full working knowledge of power plant operations, HRSGs, SCRs, high energy piping, valves, and environmental equipment

Ability to troubleshoot HRSG systems and provide clear direction for recommended maintenance

Competent in the use of engineering standards, applicable ASME test codes, and all associated boiler codes including knowledge of boiler operations including design, construction, operation and maintenance of steam generator systems and auxiliary equipment

Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles such as heat transfer rates, combustion efficiency, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.

EDUCATION:

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:Associate of Science degree and/or Bachelor degree from and accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE:

Maintenance Specialist II

Required: Minimum of 10 years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required. Related experience consists of: working in an industrial environment or facility where the primary responsibility was maintaining industrial sized mechanical and electrical equipment.

College degree may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience of 2 years with an Associate’s degree and 4 years with a Bachelor’s degree.

Maintenance Specialist III

Required: Minimum of 12 years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required. Related experience consists of: working in an industrial environment or facility where the primary responsibility was maintaining industrial sized mechanical and electrical equipment.

College degree may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience of 2 years with an Associate’s degree and 4 years with a Bachelor’s degree.

SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE

Required: N/A

Preferred: Two years of supervisory experience over contractors and consultants.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Required: Must be able to resolve a variety of issues/topics that are non-routine and complex with complete independence.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Physical dexterity including crawling extended distances, bending, average lifting (<50 lbs), and the ability to enter boiler and auxiliary equipment through existing access doors and openings

The ability to work in confined spaces and at heights

The ability to work in varied high and low temperatures, inside and outside, high noise levels, around hazardous equipment, and chemicals
