Job SummaryResponsible for providing group, individual, and family supportive therapy services to children and adolescents residing in the Mental Health Inpatient Center under the Psychology Department. Develops and implements music therapy curriculum informed by the evidence-based models utilized on the unit. Collaborates with other interdisciplinary team members to develop and/or integrate personalized treatment plans. Develops suitable music programs for patients based on their needs, objectives, and preferred forms of creative expression. Teaches patients coping skills and strategies to enable them to deal with challenging and traumatic experiences.

Pay RangeMinimum $26.21 Midpoint $34.72 Maximum $43.24

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

* Required: Two (2) of professional experience as a Music Therapist.

* Preferred: Experience working with inpatient or high-risk mental health populations. Previous experience with adolescents in a mental health setting.

Education

* Required: Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy from an American Music Therapy Association approved university or a Bachelor’s degree in Music with a completed Music Therapy equivalency.

* Preferred: Master's degree in Music Therapy from an American Music Therapy Association approved university or Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Clinical Psychology or be currently enrolled in a Master’s level degree program.

Training

* Required: CPR Certification within 30 days of hire or transfer into position. Board Certified Music Therapist with CBMT in accordance with NCCA Program Accreditation Standards.

* Preferred: Internship, Fieldwork or Volunteer experience in the pediatric setting.

Ability to work in collaboration and in positive manner with others. Ability to perform duties independently. Perform work according to CHOC policies and procedures, professional standards of care, and applicable laws. Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards. Care with sensitivity and respect. Advance care through the development of new ideas and technology. Promote teamwork to achieve CHOC's mission. Understand and exceed customer expectations. Ability to accurately assess developmental needs of patients, establish a plan of care, evaluate effectiveness of interventions. Understanding of counseling principles and practices. Effective written and verbal skills.

* Preferred: Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.

Licensure

* Required: Board Certified Music Therapist with CBMT in accordance with NCCA Program Accreditation Standards, Basic Life Support (BLS).

Work Environments - Functional Demand:Medium - High energy level Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Push/pull +/- 150-200 lbs. (Patients on bed, stretcher) Lateral transfer 150-200 lbs. (ie. Patient) .
