Position Summary

A Deck Captain assists with the daily dredge activities and operations and relieves Dredge Captain as needed.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Assist the Captain with the operation of the dredge, crew and attending plants in order to achieve maximum production.

Complete Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and or Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA).

Acts as relief Leverman as needed.

Operate crane barges, anchor barges, and dredge tender if necessary.

Assigns tasks to deck crew, bull gang and welders.

Other duties assigned by the Captain.

Follows company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an “Incident and Injury Free” work environment.

Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.

Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.

Qualifications

5+ years total dredging experience with 3 years as Cutter Dredge Leverman.

Ability to work 84 hour work week.

Ability to live aboard vessel for full rotation.

Ability to understand hand signals.

Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with craft workers under his/her supervision and management/supervision.

Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools.

Requirements

Driver’s license

NCCCO Crane certification

State Crane Certification (If required)

Merchant Mariner Credential (preferred)

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) preferred, or willing to obtain upon hire.

Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.

Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.

Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.

Performs other duties as required.
