Position Focus:

The Yale Public Safety Systems team provides security solutions to the Yale University campus. The Assistant Director of Security Systems will offer various consulting and design services related to security systems technologies and building security. Under the direction of the Associate Director, this role will support the Yale population with any facet of electronic and physical security systems.

This includes site surveys, generating reports, selection of equipment, and overseeing installation. You will partner with Yale facilities project managers, architects, general contractors, and department directors or managers that intersect with security. The position will regularly interface with telecom, DNO, ITS, physical plant, and our internal managers within public safety in coordinating projects.

The position will require the ability to work on multiple concurrent projects while ensuring efficiency, accuracy and top-quality work is being delivered to our university partners. You will be a key contributor in designing, documenting, testing/commissioning, and/or bidding on electronic security installation projects. You should understand how to interpret physical security standards, drawings, bill of materials, request for proposals, and submittal requirements provided by the client. The expectations are to be fully engaged with the different stakeholders on your respective projects, maintaining consistent communication and tracking deadlines. Maintain contact and ensure coordination with the end users throughout the process to ensure project is tracked through completion.

Meet with building representatives regarding inquiries to improve electronic and physical security. Assess existing security infrastructure, identify gaps, and recommend solutions. Provide scope of work with estimate for work to be performed. Process orders for booking. Plan, schedule, and supervise contractors for conversions, installations, service and inspection of the physical security systems for the university including access control, video, intrusion alarms, and intercoms. Maintain technical knowledge of current standards and new developments.

Essential Duties

1. Oversees the execution and implementation of detailed project plans in concert with stakeholders. 2. Manages several routine projects simultaneously and ensures that the design, testing, training, documentation and prioritization objectives are met. 3. Assists in refining and re-sequencing during the implementation and execution phases of assigned projects, as needed. 4. Works closely with business analysts, technical professionals, end users and project stake holders during the requirements, solutions design and implementation phases to develop detailed project plans for implementation. 5. Works on risk assessment, communication planning, development of performance metrics, and project entry criteria. 6. Creates detailed project plans including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure successful project completion. 7. Manages client expectations and provides issue/risk identification and escalation pathways. 8. May supervise the implementation team of cross-functional project and technical resources. 9. Designs, develops, and executes communication systems to ensure effective exchange of information between project stakeholders, senior management, and staff. 10. Resolves complex project issues that involve representatives from multiple organizations. 11. Complies with standard policies and procedures. 12. May supervise and train junior project managers. 13. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and five years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Cover letter required. Ability to review and edit infrastructure construction drawings, details, and specifications. Including submittals and shop drawings, coordinate with architects, contractors, engineers, consultants, and vendors.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Ability to collaborate with internal partners including Facilities and IT to provide guidance through the technology selection process.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentations and presentations. Proficient with MS Office Suite and Google applications.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Evaluate system performance and effectiveness to maintain and minimize equipment malfunctions. Maintain technical knowledge of current standards and new developments.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Works equally well as an individual contributor or a collaborative team member. Maintains a professional and positive attitude in a fast paced and occasionally high-pressure environment. Ability to meet deadlines and honor commitments.

Preferred Licenses or Certifications:

ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) preferred.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) experience preferred.
