Become part of this mission! We're looking for a Kotlin Backend Engineer to reinforce the engineering team responsible for trivago's advertiser tools and interactions. In this role, you'll work alongside a passionate team of Kotlin and Typescript developers to build and optimize our analytics tools. How you’ll make an impact:

Develop scalable and reliable software to solve problems encountered in high-volume data processing scenarios on the platform

Work hand-in-hand with backend, frontend, QA, design, and concept teams to help achieve the company's and the team’s objectives

Own the development cycle with an entrepreneurial spirit, from ideation over implementation and testing, to observation and maintenance

Proactively share and gain knowledge within the team and across the company

Implement and optimize the solutions for working with high-volume data processing to ensure a smooth experience for our advertisers

Participate in architectural decisions and keep up-to-date with emerging technologies to maintain and enhance our project's technical roadmap

Conduct code reviews to ensure state-of-the-art code quality

gRPC, Kafka, Redis, MySQL, Impala, Kudu

Kubernetes, Helm, GitHub Actions, Tilt, K3D

What you'll need to thrive:

3+ years of experience in backend development with Kotlin

Expertise in designing, building, and architecting large-scale, concurrent, and distributed low-latency backend systems that are performant and highly available

Effectiveness in collaborating with stakeholders from both technical and non-technical backgrounds

Proficient problem-solving and analytical skills

Self-motivation with an entrepreneurial mindset to make things happen

A good understanding of architecture and design patterns

Fluency in English (our company language)

Stand out with:

Exposure to data-heavy applications and an interest in collaborating with data engineers

Experience with frameworks such as Spring Boot or Ktor

Good understanding of frontend or web applications end-to-end
