About us

At Modulr, our vision is a world where all businesses are powered by embedded payments.

Modulr enables thousands of businesses, from SMEs to Enterprise, across the UK and Europe to efficiently pay-in, collect and disburse funds instantly via a range of payment methods, accounts, and card products.

We’ve created an industry-leading platform with comprehensive online tools and API access, to meet the demands of daily business payments. We are connected to an expanding network of accounting and payroll platforms, including Sage, Xero, BrightPay and IRIS. Our payments expertise and extensive product capability also enables us to build tailored solutions to solve complex payment problems for hundreds of clients in a range of industries, including Travel, Merchant Payments, Lending, Wage Advance and Investment & Wealth.

We are deeply integrated into the payment eco-system. In the UK, we are direct participants of Faster Payments and Bacs, and hold settlement accounts at the Bank of England. Our payment network connectivity includes CHAPS, Open Banking, SEPA, SWIFT and account issuance in 11 currencies. We are principal issuing members of Visa and Mastercard across UK and Europe.

Our regulatory permissions and governance structure underpin our business. We are regulated and supervised as an Authorised Electronic Money Institution (AEMI) in the UK by the Financial Conduct Authority and in the Netherlands by De Nederlandsche Bank.

Our founding team has a wealth of experience in the payments industry and growing successful businesses. Modulr is backed by the venture arms of payments giants PayPal and FIS, as well as growth investors Blenheim Chalcot, General Atlantic, Frog Capital and Highland Europe.

Modulr now has over 400 employees spread globally across offices in London, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Mumbai.

Achieve it together, working as a team and being a Modulite

The role

To execute on our mission you and the team will drive innovation and the future growth of the platform that powers Scotland's Fintech of the Year. To give you a picture of the sort of work that you are likely to encounter some of the projects on our roadmap include:

Redesigning our CI/CD

Migrating to new deployment paradigms such as serverless architectures (e.g. AWS Lambda) or containerisation technologies (e.g. Kubernetes)

Automation of change management and audit trails

Cost Control

Development Tooling

Implementing a service mesh

As a part of the Platform Team your voice and knowledge will be crucial in the direction of the platform, you and the team are makers of your own destiny. In order to achieve many of these projects we lean on our varied expertise as well as existing practices and paradigms, which are heavily influenced by Site Reliability Engineering. It is important to note that as part of this role you will be expected to be on call for the platform and actively contribute to improving how we manage incidents. On call is remunerated separately with a flat rate as well as an additional bonus if you are called out whilst you are on call.

We also function as ambassadors to the engineering squads to encourage best practice for areas we are experts in as well as to gather requirements from the engineering teams as to what they need us to build in the future. This mechanism is the conduit by which many of our ideas and improvements percolate, both in the engineering teams and in the platform.

The Team

In order to achieve our mission the team is made up of approximately 10 engineers with a range of skills and experience which complement each other. We believe that in order to work most effectively in such a varied and ever changing technical landscape we need multidisciplinary people who are keen to learn and to lean on each other. Alongside technical delivery we also hold an evangelical role where we champion best practice and empowerment in our development teams.

You’re comfortable working in a scaling business, where time is critical, and things change on a regular basis.

You enjoy positively challenging the way things are done and want to join a business that is focused on constantly improving. You have well thought-out opinions about how technologies and toolsets can be used to create elegant solutions and are happy sharing these. You care about the quality and integrity of the outputs from your team and want to work with people who care. You can find the right balance of speed and accuracy when prioritising and take responsibility for seeing things through to a high standard. Above all we value passion and integrity, knowledge can be gained, tools learned, passion can’t be read and integrity can’t be certified.
