Machinist

JOB SUMMARY:

First line assistant in the assembly of Hope Global machinery by making machine parts according to design specifications.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Performs specific tasks as instructed by a first line supervisor. The incumbent may receive instruction and/or training from a lead person and/or another qualified operator.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Milling machine; lathe; band saw; caliper; micrometer; depth mike; inside/outside micrometers; height gauge; digital readout; shears; band saw; drill press; belt sander.

MATERIAL:

Metal of various sizes; aluminum; cast iron.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Working from verbal instructions, manufacturers manuals, blueprints and assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, identify and locate machine or equipment malfunctions and determines type and need for adjustment, repair and/or replacement of components, attachments, or accessories

· Disassemble unit and obtain machine replacement for damaged components and, as necessary, drill tap, ream, bore, counterbore, rout, grind, countersink, polish, cut deburr, spot weld, braze, silver solder or solder to fabricate, adapt or modify unit.

· Perform diversified assembly and installation operations necessary to adjust, align, fit and install details, tools and fixtures, guards, covers and required hardware, recognizing discrepant conditions and effecting remedial action to correct.

· As scheduled, perform prescribed prevention maintenance of machine and equipment, checking operation and adjusting as necessary.

· Follows prescribed safety rules and regulations, move and store materials, as necessary, maintain required records, detect, identify, report, and recommend resolution of operating difficulties, material defects or shortages, improper machine equipment operation to supervisor.

· Performs other duties at or above the same skill level at the discretion of the Supervisor.

Overall awareness and understanding that Hope Global operates within the EMS 14001 & QMS 16949 management systems.

Additional training over the course of the employee's tenure will be given as needed or required and in accordance with the criteria specified in ESP7.2/QSP 7.2.1Training Awareness and Competence.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent, preferred.

Must have three (3) to five (5) years of prior machine experience.

Skills/Abilities:

Mechanical aptitude

Critical thinking

Time management

Attention to detail

Dexterity

Blueprint reading

Ability to read, write and follow basic instructions.

A working knowledge of the English language is required.

Basic mathematics to perform measurement calculations.

Must possess a thorough knowledge of tools.

Advanced knowledge of welding, required.

PHYSICAL DEMAND/WORKING CONDITIONS:

The job requires bending and stooping. Lifting to a maximum of one hundred (100) pounds is required. Standing on the job is necessary for an eight (8) hour day. To protect the incumbent, safety goggles and safety gloves must always be worn when running machinery.

The incumbent is exposed to dust, dirt, and grease in the workspace. Machines are in constant operation and, as such, noise levels can sometimes be loud. The ambient temperature of the work area varies greatly due to outside weather conditions.
