Homecare Durable Medical Equipment Specialist

Employee has a working knowledge of durable medical equipment, braces and supports, including selection and fitting of these items. Responsible for: Daily staffing of retail medical equipment store, monthly accounting of finances including total sales and cost of goods, inventory counts and product ordering, customer service, providing supplies and equipment to customers according to a Doctor's order, answering phone calls, and provides customer service functions in interactions with patients, families, caregivers, and medical personnel in a retail store setting.Providing age-appropriate care to patients.

Responsibilities

Continuously supports and models the NCH Zero Hero program.

Works closely with NCHH Purchaser to ensure proper placement of orders.

Maintains a positive, competitive, professional, and ethical relationship with all vendor representatives.

Able to work independently within a retail sales environment.

Participates in the planning, development, and maintenance/enhancement of appropriate computer systems/applications to identify items, calculate needed quantities, and track inventory usage and costs, and place orders.

Answers all calls and e mails into the department during normal working hours.

Troubleshooting of patient problems or concerns on all equipment supplied through NCHH.

Assists families with finding alternate providers when NCHH is unable to provide for their needs.

Assists on delivery of product and supplies to patient homes as directed.

Assists with training and/or in-service to clinical staff as requested, on usage of select equipment. Works collaboratively with the NCHH Purchaser and Materials Management departments.

* Assists, as appropriate, in complying with applicable: federal, state and local laws; Medicare / Medicaid Conditions of Participation; JCAHO standard; State of Ohio Waiver regulations; and any other appropriate accrediting or regulatory body.

Participates as directed in marketing efforts and community endeavors.

Participates in drills (including fire, bomb, tornado, weather disaster, community disaster, etc.) and ICES Rounds and follow up, as directed, to ensure the safety of patients, families, staff, students, vendors, visitors to the NCHH building, etc.

Promote, model and participates in NCH and NCHH customer service initiatives; fosters patient/parent /caregiver, payer, provider and other community relationships through using effective communication and collaboration skills; and openly and willingly provides NCHH staff and managers with customer feedback, in an appropriate and goal-oriented way.

Actively participates in NCHH continuous quality and performance improvement activities under the direction of the QI Coordinator and respective manager(s) (including event tracking and reporting, patient case conferences, performance improvement teams, customer satisfaction surveys, utilization review activities, etc.)

Conducts self in a manner that supports good patient relations and projects a professional image consistent with NCH and NCHH standards.

Maintains at all times the rights of the patient / family regarding confidentiality of the medical record, according to policy.

Supports the philosophy, mission, policies, procedures, standards, and strategic goals of NCH and NCHH; participates, as directed, in short and long-range planning and CHS strategic goal development, implementation and evaluation.

Manages own learning and skills related to existing and new computer systems, as appropriate, including becoming proficient in Outlook and Microsoft Office.

Participates in general and department staff meetings, committee work and other related activities as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned, including the assumption of new duties commensurate with the growth of the agency.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education:

High School graduate or equivalent.

Preferred Experience:

Strong business (home health; infusion; DME) background a plus.

One year experience in health care environment preferably in home health or Durable Medical Equipment (DME) preferred.

Must be organized, self-motivated, and able to function independently following established policies and procedures.

Good interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.

Analytical skills related to thinking, responding and solving problems independently.

Good driving record.

Minimum Physical Requirments:

Ability to read a map. Occasionally (00-33)

Ability to lift 50 pounds. Occasionally (00 -33)
