HDR Engineering is looking for an Electrical Engineer – Power Delivery & Substations to join our growing team of Power Delivery professionals.

As an Electrical Engineer you will be part of a 100-percent employee-owned organisation that creates opportunities for you to succeed, advance, and fulfill your personal career aspirations. You will have the opportunity to work under experienced Senior Engineers and grow your technical expertise while also helping to develop a growing team of Graduate Engineers and Drafters/Designers. You will prepare engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, and reports for electrical substations and related systems as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will be provided opportunity to work on both physical electrical as well as protection and control designs for medium and high voltage substations.

Specific Duties:

Work under the direction of Senior Engineers and Project Managers to develop design deliverables.

Work with Graduate Engineers as well as Drafters/Designers to develop design drawings and specifications in accordance with client/national/industry standards and best practices.

Develop physical electrical design packages including general arrangements, equipment layouts, cable/conduit routing, grounding, lightning protection, and AC/DC system calculations.

Develop electrical protection and control design packages including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, DC protection and control schematics, communication diagrams, panel elevations, wiring diagrams, and bills of material.

Essential Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Minimum 2 years of technical design experience in power systems.

Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, departments, technical managers, and project staff.

Experience using industry standard design software.

Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, WebEx, Teams, etc.).

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving, and collaboration skills

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

An attitude and commitment to be an active participant of our employee-owned culture.

Willingness to travel when required.

Desirable Qualifications:

Ideally 3 years of technical design experience with high voltage (HV) electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity up to 765kV preferred, including at a minimum, conceptual knowledge of physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components as well as knowledge of IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and other applicable design and equipment standards.

Previous consulting firm experience.

Experience with development of electrical grounding and lightning studies.

Experience with design of one-line, three-line, and other electrical diagrams.

Experience with design of physical layouts, section views, and electrical clearances.

Experience with design of conduit layouts.

Experience with design of protective relaying and control equipment.

Experience with design of varying voltage classes of equipment.
