Job Description

The Mechanical Reliability Engineer is the focal point for asset availability, reliability, and integrity across the entire site. The Mechanical Reliability Engineer works closely with the business team to minimize threats to unit production targets.

The successful candidate will work across all engineering and inspection disciplines to drive long-term improvement objectives and day-to-day troubleshooting of refinery assets, including rotating, fixed, and electrical equipment.

Job Responsibilities May Include:

Support Goal Zero performance by proactively driving reliability centered HSE improvements at the site and following all health and safety policies

Perform technical studies on equipment/processes and develop the improvement strategies to close gaps in availability, reliability, maintainability, and operational performance

Use Reliability tools and analytical processes in order to drive improvement across the site. These tools include:

o Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA),

o Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA),

o Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM),

o Reliability Availability Maintainability (RAM) modeling, and/or

o Life Cycle Cost Analysis

Lead cross discipline teams through the Manage Threats and Opportunities (MTO) work process to identify and communicate priorities to stakeholders at all levels

Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis efforts using tools such as 5-Why, ABS Root Cause, Causal Learning, and TOP methodology

Develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and high-impact failures that adversely affect plant operations. These problems include capacity, quality, cost, or regulatory compliance issues.

Define, monitor, and report key performance indicators such as lost profit opportunities, bad actors, and MTBR (Mean Time Between Repair) benchmarking to promote improvement.

Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a wide range of audiences including management, technical, and non-technical personnel through verbal and written communications

Position Specific Requirements:

During occasional high maintenance events (TA, Project Execution, Overhauls) an altered work schedule over an extended period may be required.

Participate in the refinery Emergency Operations Center (EOC) duty rotation schedule for off-hours support.

Possess a valid Drivers License

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field

5 years of experience in technical or operations roles in a refinery, petrochemical, or similar facility

Familiarity with national codes and standards such as API, ANSI, and ASME

Experience in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), bad actor troubleshooting, Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and Causal Reasoning

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with Reliability Engineering work processes and tools (MTA, RCM, Weibull, CMMS)

Experience with codes and standards relating to rotating, fixed, and electrical equipment

Experience leading and facilitating reliability studies both independently and in team settings

Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) certifications a plus
