Job Description

Summary: Maintains responsibility for competent nursing care in the operating room for. Provides one-to-one individualized nursing care of high intensity during a short period of time by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Circulates prior to procedure to check the status of the room for cleanliness, equipment in room; checks function of equipment.

Prepares and assists with procedures utilizing sterile technique

Greets patient by introducing self; reviews chart for pertinent patient information and transfers patient to operating room.

Performs time-out at beginning of procedure with surgeons and all OR personnel.

Maintains safety of patient during the procedure.

Maintains appropriate documentation as required.

Ensures accurate collection, storage of specimens and completion of log book.

Maintains appropriate logs as required.

Participates in quality management incentives.

Maintains operating room suite with appropriate stock necessary for procedures.

Assists in applying the dressings.

Transfers patient to recovery room as needed.

Communicates pertinent information to recovery room.

Assists with timely and efficient turn over of operating rooms.

Provides care appropriate to age of patients.

Restocks supplies and equipment at the end of the day.

Maintains a clean and safe working environment.

Qualifications:

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software and inventory software.

Certificates and Licenses:

New York State RN License

ACLS Certification

PALS recommended
