Job Description

Our Pulmonary and Critical Care office is looking for a Medical Secretary to join their team! This is a full time 40 hour week job.

Responsibilities:

Management of outgoing referral requests through our EMR, tasks/messaging, and patient/provider requests in a timely manner.

Coordinate patient appointments with appropriate specialists, while carefully verifying insurance participation.

Complete and schedule physician orders for outpatient diagnostic testing including MRI, CT/PET scan, Ultrasound, Stress Tests, etc.

Obtain prior authorization for testing and medications when required.

Answer telephone calls, including tasking medical questions to providers and prescription renewals.

Complete emergency/urgent patient referrals at the time of the provider’s request.

Contact patients and inform them regarding their referral information, including: date/time, specialist or facility name/address/phone number, and any instructions they may need to know prior to their appointment.

Manage outgoing medical records requests by following office protocol to ensure strict HIPAA compliance and quality patient care.

Ability to take constructive feedback and make necessary changes.

Collecting co-payments.

Functions at the highest level of customer service, compassion and professionalism to internal and external patients and customers.

Other tasks as needed by providers and manager.

Requirements:

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent with additional education desirable

Minimum of one year work experience

Previous clerical experience in a medical practice preferred

Strong computer skills

Ability to operate office machines, including fax, scanner, telephone, copier, etc

Knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Works well as a member of a group

Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills
